Wyverns

Deep within the darkness and guarded by an evil
from beyond death, there lies a secret room which
holds an ancient scroll. To the Dark Knights, this
scroll possesses the secret ritual of summoning
soulbond, the wyvern. The wyvern - a beast of death
and destruction that's bonded til death to the Knight's side...

The Wyvern Bonding Quest

The Wyvern Bonding Quest to find one's bonded soulkin, the Wyvern, is available to a Dark Knight at or above level 35. At this time, the Knight is judged to have gained some power and knowledge of himself, and thus able to control the uncontrolled might of a young wyvern. To perform the quest, a Dark Knight must enter the Hylar Graveyard and obtain a Crumbling Scroll from the Mausoleum.

From Hylar's West Gate:
e, ne, e, e, e, d, e (Go fast because Dracolich will auto attack you)
'get scroll' or 'move column'
After getting the scroll, leave the mausoleum.
Then 'chant ritual' to summon wyvern for first time.

When you first summon your wyvern, it shall be young and weak for the power of the bonding is overwhelming to it. Cast Regenerate upon it and then Dark Shield it.

The Fledging Wyvern

When first you and your wyvern bond, it is a powerful experience. The wyvern shall be weak and disoriented. As a symbol of your bond, you (as the summoning Knight) will be branded by a Glowing Tattoo. This tattoo is your key to resummoning your wyvern and symbolizes the bond you and your beast share. Should ever your wyvern die and yet is saved by your last powers, you will still be able to resummon it later. The death of your wyvern shall affect your soul so greatly by its loss that you shall be weakened (-2 points) in your three primary stats (Str, Int, Con) temporarily. Should you ever raise a hand against your wyvern and strike it dead, you too shall suffer and lose a life for a life. If the wyvern dies permenantly and your tattoo is lost, you shall have to reget another wyvern and retrain it. After a permanent death, you lose a life from your max. NOTE: You can only summon a wyvern if you have a life to spare. Should you die while your wyvern accompanies you, you shall spend your dying energy commanding the wyvern to safety.

Your tattoo remains with you even in death..and should you wish to more fully understand your bond to your wyvern, 'watch tattoo'.

Glowing Tattoo
The stylized form of a wyvern has been embossed just underneath the skin. The thin lines glow with a faint blue light that seems to flicker occasionally. The writhing image seems to tell a tale and you may gain some insight into this beast should you 'watch' it long enough.

As you concentrate on the image understanding comes to you. The bond between Knight and Wyvern is not like that of a summoned thing, nor any other trained beast. Your wyvern becomes bonded to your spirit as you raise it and gain its respect. This bonding allows Knight and Wyvern some measure of empathy for one another. Thus your wyvern is able to sense its Knights summons from great distances. The bond also allows you to sense the general health and mood of your companion along with the ability to will your companion to perform simple actions. The spirit of Knight and Wyvern becomes after time so intermingled that the death of ones wyvern can have terrible consequences on the Knight's psyche.

As a fledgling, your wyvern is fairly weak and untrained. You must train your wyvern into the powerful beast of destruction that it aspires to be. You will need to hunt with your wyvern, letting it kill and feast, protecting and healing it as needed. As you continue to train it, it shall grow from a fledgling into a powerful Wyvern. You should also name your wyvern by using 'wyvern name [Name]'. Remember that if you choose to use color in your wyvern's name (which is permanent), use %^RESET%^ at the end. This naming is a one time thing. The color of your Wyvern is variable upon first summonings. The possible wyverns are:

Black Acid attacks
Blue Lighting attacks
Brown Poison attacks
Mottled Psionic attacks
Red Fire attacks
Silver Air/Wind attacks
White Cold/Ice attacks

Hunting with a Wyvern

To train your wyvern you must hunt with your beast. As you level up the wyvern, it will become stronger and once resummoned will have new hps levels. The max level for a wyvern is around Level 100. The wyvern's initial attack, the dive is a very powerful attack. Overall, it should take you about four hours or less to max your wyvern. Some good places to hunt with your wyvern, which begins at Level 25, are:

The Elves and Insects in the Elven Forest
The Elves of Eternia & Sylph Area
This is a good area to hunt early on. It is nice to build up some levels and hp levels for your wyvern.

The Grave Robbers and Diggers in the Hylar Graveyard
This is good around level 35 and up. You will get good xp for your wyvern.

    The Commoners in Hylar
The Commoners give up a lot of xp for your wyvern who will gain levels quickly here. After about level 55, they can also hunt Hylarean Red Elite Guardsmen. (Be careful of Orcs at first..they can hit hard on a young wyvern.) Always monitor a wyvern's hp levels.

    The Treeth Soldiers in Treeth
A nice touch, killing the soldiers of the home city of our traditional enemies.

The Wall Guards, City Guards, Citizens, anything in Xerxes
What's good for you is good for the wyvern too :) Lotsa xp fast.

Although alignment does not matter for one's wyvern, it seems more in line with who we are and who it is to try to kill good things, but to gain levels fast that is not always possilble. They are evil aligned now, but still unaffected it seems by what they kill.

Allow your wyvern to feast on the corpses of those it has killed. Eating corpses heals the wyvern. Additionally, remember to always cast Regen and Dark Shield on your wyvern. A cleric's Spider Bite is a great spell to help the wyvern xp fast! Dark Might is good for low level wyverns (when their strength is low). Images, Force Shields, etc help your wyvern too.

Various Wyvern Information

Description of a Wyvern:
This is a huge snarling wyvern, faithful companion of the Knights of darkness. It watches you carefully with large black eyes that glisten like liquid crystals. The large haunches tighten as the beast ponders your presence here, its talons dig into the ground nervously as if tensing to strike. A long serpentine neck curls high above you as the beast bears its mighty fangs in warning. The sleak form of its head curls slighty its serrated teeth extend to their full length. Its broad back supports its massive wings which are similar to a bats. Suddenly the beast twists its long spined tail viciously about slamming it into the ground inches from you, dragging it slowly back as if taunting you.
It is in good health.

Wyvern's Entrance:
You look to the skies willing your companion to come to your side.

The hulking form of a huge wyvern decends from the clouds making a hasty landing before you.

Wyvern's Entry upon Resummoning:
You reach out to your wyvern silently commanding it to return to your side.

The form of Wyvern appears on the horizon flying quickly to make hasty landing nearby.

Wyvern's Feeding:
Your wyvern flays the corpse with its talons and devours it messily.

Wyvern's Exit:
Your wyvern leaps into the air quickly disappearing into the clouds.

Jealous Wyvern:
As you reach for the scroll waves of envy roll through your mind from your faithful companion. Thinking better of the idea you decide to leave the knowledge buried here for another.

When Saluting Kraagenskul:
When you have lost your Glowing Tattoo in a LOAD ERROR, simply 'salute kraagenskul', the guild NPC, for another tattoo so you can summon your wyvern.

Your tattoo flashs brightly.
The faintly glowing lines of a wyvern flare to life in the presence of your guildmaster.
