Chapter 15:

Kaery stood watch at one of the exits of the city. She had to indicate the people who were arriving from one of the destroyed cities were the infirmary was. Damn! The Mazoku were getting more and more active lately. The infirmary was already full and they had to use the schoolrooms to lie down the injured.

But the worst part was that Filia and Xeres hadn't come back as well as Aishan and many others. She closed her eyes in anger. If something has happened to them I will make those Mazoku pay for it!!!

"Kaery."

The short black-haired woman turned around and looked at Edele.

"Edele?!" Kaery said a little alarmed and looked with pitiful eyes at the girl as she knelt on the ground to be at the same level with her.

If Aishan had died this girl would be left alone without family, Keary just hoped that her friend would return soon.

"What can I do for you Edele?" she asked friendly.

The girl looked with a strange expression at her, which made Kaery shudder. Edele was about to say something to her as a cold wind made her turn around and point with her crossbow at a certain smiling priest's face.

"Hi there, no need to attack me." said Xellos lowering Kaery's weapon with a hand.

"Sorry, Xellos, but you certainly can't blame me." she said to him standing up.

"Of course not, hi there Edele how are you doing?" he asked smiling.

"As always." she answered coldly.

Xellos sweatdroped, this girl was to weird, even for him.

"So what are you doing here, without Luna-san?" asked Kaery.

"Luna is in the infirmary and I don't want to enter, I don't want to alarm the people in there. Anyway could you do me the favor to call her for me, I'll be waiting in her office."

"Well actually I have guard here and-"

"You'll go, I'll wait here for you and besides I'll be able to see mother first than anyone else when she arrives." said Edele smiling cheerfully.

"Well,... okay, I'll be right back. With those words Kaery went to search for the Cephied Knight.

"Are you going to stay there or will you be leaving?" Xellos heard Edele's cold voice ask him.

He looked at her. The cheerful smile had disappeared completely and had been replaced by Edele's usual careless annoyed look in those amethyst eyes of her

"I'll be going." said the priest phasing out, but not before having a strange feeling he couldn't quite place as he looked at the spiky haired girl.

This was for what she had waited for. Her eyes glinted red for a moment before getting their usual color again. Edele smiled amused before turning around and running out of the city. Through the corridors, outside...

She ran and ran without thinking of stopping. She just had to get out. She tripped over a stone.

She had lost any kind orientation that was possible in the labyrinth of corridors.

Edele started to get up, but a flash of pain flew trough her body starting in her left leg. It didn't hold her own weight and she felt back to the ground. She hissed from the pain and sat up slowly. The girl looked at her hurt leg and saw that she was bleeding from an injury at her knee. She watched amazed as the blood ran out of the wound. It was the first time she ever saw blood, which in a world at war for hundreds of years was extremely rare. She had been completely sheltered all her life.... On second thought, maybe she had seen blood before and had just forgotten... She touched the warm fluid and brought the blood-smeared finger to her nose and smelled it. Edele looked at the blood on her finger and touched it with her tongue tasting it. A flash went to her whole body. Her eyes widened as she felt a strange yet familiar power starting to increase inside of her, surrounding her.

It was like the time when she had broken Lydia's arm. Edele had gotten angry with her and had attacked the girl, broken her arm and her nose. She had watched Lydia lying on the floor crying from the pain. Edele had enjoyed hurting Lydia and she had enjoyed even more the feeling coming from the black haired girl. It had made her feel good and if it hadn't been for their teachers Edele would have continued beating the other girl up just for that feeling. Edele had watched the adults take Lydia to Eris, a smiled had appeared on her face seeing her ‘friend’ suffer.

Edele closed her eyes at the memory and smiled maliciously. She was tempted to let wound open like it was, but then decided against it, afterall didn’t want to be found here when Kaery noticed she had entered the tunnels without allowance. The girl took her hair ribbon of and cleaned some of the blood away before starting to cast a healing spell holding her hand a few inches above her injury. Edele saw the bleeding stop followed by the slow disappearance of her wound and with it the pain left. She wiped the sweat caused by the effort on summoning the power of White Magic, magic from the holy Cephied.

She closed her eyes for a moment before getting up. She kept running for a while until she found an exit out of the tunnels.

Kaery returned to the entrance to Kayless where she supposedly had watch. She looked around searching for Edele, but could no were find the girl. Maybe Aishan returned.... But I would have seen them, there’s only one way to get here.... but maybe she’s.... Oh by L-sama!! She wouldn’t leave the city, would she?

The shorthaired woman ran into the tunnels calling for Edele. After running through many tunnels she found Edele’s ribbon smeared with blood and picked it up. She thought about where the girl could have gone to and guessed she headed for the exit near the forest and the main road that leaded to Angarah.

Edele was standing in front of a spiky haired man. They watched each other for some moments in silence.

"Edele?!" the girl heard a familiar female voice from behind her back.

She turned to look at Kaery who was pointing with her crossbow at the read-eyed man.

"Edele come here." said Kaery urging the girl to step away from the man.

"Do as you want Edele." said the man smiling.

The amethyst eyed girl turned around and took a few steps towards Kaery. She closed her eyes as she stopped two meters from the black haired woman. A dangerous smile appeared on her face and as she opened her eyes again, they had a malicious glint.

Edele put one finger to her lips smiling. She looked at the armed woman.

"You shouldn’t have followed me, Kaery." she said in a cold voice.

Keary saw a flash of black energy fly towards her as Edele pointed with her finger at her. Pain filled her before all turned blank.

Then the man picked Edele up in his arms, she didn't offer resistance. He then phased out as she laid her arms around his neck.
