Final Fantasy 8 The next chapter in the continuing saga, the 8th Final Fantasy. Info on this is still very light, but you can bet that anything I find will be put up here. Percent Complete : Demo is out! Expected Japanese Release : February Latest News - May 15, 1998 Final Fantasy VIII Revealed At a press conference today, Square showed the press a promotional videotape that covered many aspects of the game. The tape opened with an opening CG sequence that eventually lead to a Final Fantasy VIII logo. Afterwards, a montage of clips showed more CG and in-game footage. Typical of Square’s displays, the experience was overwhelming. Here are some details provided about the game: - All of the characters are now texture-mapped which of course allows for far more detail in battle scenes and on the map screens. - On the map screens all of the characters in your party trail along behind a lead character. - The style of character design was decidedly more Western than previous Square titles. This may have to do with the fact that much of the artwork was done at Square’s Hawaiian offices. - The general theme of the game is far more ‘futuristic’ than those of past titles. - Square is anticipating sales of the title to exceed those of Final Fantasy VII. - A playable demo of the game will be shipping in Japan this summer (on July 16). The demo will be included with Brave Fencer Musashiden. As previously reported, the final game will ship in Japan this winter, but Square promises that the game will have far less lag time for release in overseas markets. Square has taken great pains to develop the game with the US and Europe in mind thus it’s release here should follow far more closely than Square games in the past.
