Square's next role-playing epic just might arrive before year's end in Japan.
Coming just one day after Enix's postponement of
Dragon Quest VII to summer '99, Square has gone on record with some release
news of its own, and it concerns Final Fantasy VIII.
The official word from Square is that the next Final
Fantasy epic will arrive in Japan this winter, or, more specifically, by
the end of Square's 1998 fiscal year (next March). And while there are
no guarantees, the possibility that the game may arrive before year's end
in Japan can't be ruled out.
Final Fantasy VIII is currently under development
at Square's US studios in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is reported to be approximately
10% complete.
Square will hold a press conference on Friday in
Japan to shed more light on its plans for the next Final Fantasy.
