To counter Enix’s recent Dragon’s Quest VII announcement,
Square has revealed that Final Fantasy VIII should be available on PlayStation
in Japan by Christmas.
While the announcement was by no means rock solid, Square
has announced that it expects to release its PlayStation RPG Final Fantasy
VIII this winter. Unfortunately, the announcement also hedges its bets
slightly by hinting that it could slip to March 1999.
Final Fantasy VII earned Square high praise, selling over 3.6 million titles in Japan alone and winning the Computer Entertainment Software Association prize. There is no information at this time regarding the plot of Final Fantasy VIII , but it will certainly have beautiful graphics and sound, and an excellent story, if Final Fantasy VII is any measure.
