Heavenly Troops 0-30%
With any large empire, there must come a large army and military force to defend it. With the Cathayan Army, the vast varities of Troops is one which cannot be easily matched. They possess many different troop styles, types and tactics. Ever since the first Cathayan Armies were lead through battle from the Emperor Kwan and Xheng, have these mighty men forged a powerful rule, which cannot be disputed. Every soldier in battle is considered unique, and everyone is important. No one is expendable!
The main Cathayan Army is divided into 2 groups. The Heavenly Army and the Cathayan Army. The Heavenly Army’s varieties of troops is not as diverse as the Cathayan Army, but is much more stronger.
*All saves are calculated with normal armour, and not custom armour, therefore you must add additional saves to their originoal score. However, there are diffrences between weapons, but have many equivalents within the western worlds of the Empire, Ulthuan and Bretonnia.

The Cathayan Spearmen are the most simple
and basic of the cathayan troops. They carry the spears, which are very
common throughout the empire. They, along with other basic foot troops,
form the core of any power. With their rank’s backing them up, they form
a strong, central block of razor sharp blades, ready to pierce any enemy.
Since every Cathayan is put into military training, they are somewhat more
experienced in the use of weapons than the basic troops in the Empire and
Bretonnia.

Cathayan Bowmen and Mounted Bowmen are some of the heaviest loads of anti-army artillery troops. They themselves are simply armed, but often are deployed in large groups. Although poorly skilled in the use of bows, they still are better in the use of hand weapons. They are not particularly powerful in their shooting abilities, but like any Cathayan, they can weild swords better than bows.

Cathayans improvised a new weapon during the reign of Han-Zing, who created a simple weapon known as the Halberd, however he did not know, that later, the other races would create a similar weapon as well. His troops were trained with this weapon especially well. The large spear-like point at the top was capable of combining the abilities of the long spear with the thrusting power of the Halberd, which made it stronger than the spear significantly.
Rules: The Cathayans inprovised the idea of the halberd and spear together. The newly fashioned halberds were capable of reaching over a rank, which was what the spear offered, and the added strength of a normal halberd made them stronger, therefore giving their troops an extra +1 strength in hand to hand combat. One regiment may include a magic standard.

One of the most vital links to the entire safety of the cathayan armed forces is the scout. The scouts of the Cathayan army vitally spy on their opponents, and are incredibly fast at locating them. Many of the scouts are used to the incredibly rocky terrain in the mountains, and the dense forests of the central valley, as well as the swamps of the south lands. Their faster counterparts, the mounted scouts were first used by the Empress Shi-Lian during the civil war against the rogue Emperor Tang. The steeds found throughout Cathay were remarkably faster than the wild ponies in the Old World, which were basically extinct in Cathay.
Rules: Cathayan Scouts are completely
trained and used to the rought terrains of their home land, and so, suffer
no movement penalty through the thick forests. They also suffer no penalty
for moving and shooting. They are permitted to skirmish and wear light
armour.

Kwan
Broadswordmen 75 Points
Restricted to one regiment only.
Possibly the most deadly of all troops in the entire Cathayan, and maybe even the Heavenly army are the famed Kwan Broadswordmen. First formed from the origional core of troops which were trained by Emperor Kwan himself, these wild and savage warriors fight with no objections and no fears. They are trained by the finest of generals, and sometimes, even heavenly Kings themselves. Their mighty broadswords are all blessed by the Jade Emperor, so they carry much more power than normal troops.

Rules: The Kwan Broadswordmen are the most diciplined troops. They fight with their complete devotion and are immune to psychology. They do not break, or take ANY tests, dispite whatever circumstances, whether they are forced to by rules, or special rules. They do not break what so ever. They wear heavy armour and sheilds. Their steeds are wearing barding. They may use the Broken Rank Tactic.
Kwan Broadswords: These fabulous weapons
were forged by the heavenly smiths who create the weapons for the Generals
of the Heavenly Army. Undoubtedly, they are much more deadly than any mortal
weapon forged, and possess the power of cleaving, When a foe is struck
by one such broadsword, they may attempt to save themselves through the
thickness of their armour, however if they fail, they will be completely
cleaved in half. The Broadswords offer +2 strength. And a wounded foe must
roll under their toughness immediately, and if they roll over, then they
fail, and are completely slain. This applies for all troops except
Generals and Master Wizards and up. The regiment may include a magic standard.

Palace Guards are the elite group of soldiers. They are the guards of the sacred Phoenix Tower, and are the army within the walls of the Imperial Palace, where the Emperors and Empresses have resided. They are dressed in heavily drapped mail armour which is made out of Charonite Jade Stones, which are incredibly valued throughout the Cathayan Empire, and they are trained in the use of the Double Hook Swords, one invention which was put to extreme use during the reign of Emperor Han-Zing. They are nobel at least, and invaluable at best. Strong and brave fighters, they are completely loyal to the rights of the Emperor.

Rules: The Palace Guard are armed with double hook-swords, but are unaffected by the special rules of the Double Hook-swordsmen. However, if the General is within the regiment, they do not take any leadership based tests whatsoever, which includes break test. They wear light armour and sheilds. They may use the Broken Rank Tactic. The regiment may include a magic standard.

The Cathayan Wind Riders would be the hard hitting light cavalry for the Cathayan army. They are not armed with the mighty broadswords, but with halberds. Upon first glimpse, the Wind Riders are much more elegant than the Cathayan Mounted Scouts, but they are much more deadly. Their thick armour which is not jade, offers a good save of 4+, and with extra shields, and horse barding, they can go even higher at their saves. They are the cavalry which can also use missile weapons, such as long bows.

They wear light armour, and sheilds. One regiment may include a magic standard.

Firebird Riders are the most regal of all the Cathayan Troops. They are the children of the powerful warlord families of the Cathayan Empire, and are the only troops which are permidtted to ride the sacred Firebirds in battle. Only when they have trained with the Palace Guard, or Kwan Broadswordmen, they are permitted to ride such a sacred bird. Before the actual announcement of their entrance into the Firebird Riders, no such person is permitted even to go near such a sacred creature.

Rules: The Firebird Riders are mounted on creatures with 2 wounds, but this does not mean that the Firebirds are considered monsters. The Firebirds, themselves always take the first wound inflicted on the model, despite whoever the initial attack was meant for. This shows the true loyalty of a mount. After that, if the rider is slain, the monster can continue to attack the enemy until it dies. The Firebirds never have barding, and so do not offer an extra +1 to the save.
Firebirds: Firebirds are completely
immune to any type of flame or fire attack. As are their riders. The Firebirds
carry 3 Flame Feathers which may be used in shooting phase. They have a
range of 8" and inflict a single S4 hit. Armor saves are allowed. Firebirds
are also allowed to "fly high" as described in the Warhammer Rulebook.
The regiment may include a magic standard.
The diverse Cathayan army includes specialized troops from throughout the Catnayan Empire. The troops of the Shung Province are armed with mighty Double Hook Swords, which provide not only attacking abilities, but extra protection! The Hook Swords parry many attacks, but are essentially much related to the dagger.

armour saves are calculated. One regiment may include a magic standard.

From the Province of Han come the fast, and fierce fighting Sabermen. Soldiers who fight similar to the Hook-Swordmen, but are much much more faster. Yang-Lo’s existance as a major sea power has contributed to the Cathayans. Not only do they produce incredible amounts of ships, but they also train some of the most well armed troops. Their soldiers are the Yang-Lo Watchers. The Watchers are more cunning than the convential scouts. They are carefully deployed within their ships, or land, where they keep watch out for enemies.

Cathayan
War Machines
The Cathayan Rocketmen are the main artillery force of the Cathayan Empire. Using the rockets which were invented during the reign of Empress Shi-Lian, they are still functional today, as the most deadly of all cathayan troops. Although the crew themselves do not do much, their rockets speak of their power.
Rules: When engaged in hand to hand combat, the crew can fire at close range, although they, themselves will be hit. They fight as a pair. For their own deployment, a single rocketmen pair can count as a regiment, or they may be in a large battery. They wear light armour.
Shooting: The Rockets have a range of 50". The crew aim carefully at their enemies and then launch the rockets. The rockets do D3 wounds at a strength of 7. One model is directly hit, which allows no saves. And all surrounding soldiers, including those whose corner bases are touching suffer a further strength 4 hit, which does allow armour saves. When one crewman is slain, the firing is reduced to half rate, meaning one turn shoots, the other turn reloads and so one.

Amoung the inventions, the Cathayans have created a long range rifle, with incredible power. The rifle is so large, it requires two people to operate one single rifle. They are often deployed in large groups, so they can use quick firing methods.
Rules: The Long Range Rifles cause a strength 5 hit, with the normal -3 armour save modifier. Like the rocket teams, they may fire at close range, without penalty then. In hand to hand combat, the crew may choose to still operate the machine, or fight as a pair. They always wear Light Armour.

The incredible weapons of the Plaza of Innovators has created a weapon capable of rivaling the Imperial Helblaster Volley Guns! The powerful Bomb Cannon is a weapon with 6 barrels. Each loaded with an explosive bomb. This incredible machine requires quite a large crew to operate it.
Crew 4 3 3 3 3 1 3 1 7
Bomb Cannon - - - - 7 3 - - -
Rules: There is a crew of 5 operating
the cannon. Each has the ability to reload and operate the cannon.
Shooting: Like the Imperial and
Dwarven Cannons, the Cannon must guess range. The Maximum range is 48".
The player rolls a D6 at the beginning of his usage of the Cannon, which
tells the player, how many bombs are loaded and ready for firing that turn.
After that, the crew may shoot the bombs either at a single target, or
multiple targets, as long as they are within the firing range and angle.
Bombs: The Bombs hit and bounce like a cannon ball, but when they stop, they explode like a mortar shell. The total impact of the explosion does a S7 hit directly on the model and inflicts D3 wounds. No armor saves permitted. Troops within 1" suffer a further single S5 hit with a -2 armour save. Troops within 2" suffers a single S3, with normal saves applied.
Casualties: If the crew is in hand to hand combat, they cannot operate the cannon. If one crewman is slain, then the reloading time is unaffected. However when another is killed, then it takes one more turn for the cannon to reload. If three are killed, then it takes 2 turns, and so on.
The Heavenly army was formed out of the seasoned troops of the mortal Cathayan Army. The troops of the Heavenly army are significantly much more powerful than those of Cathay. Although they are more powerful, very small amounts of them are used within the normal limits of any Cathayan Army. Normally only 30% of a Cathayan Army is composed of Heavenly Troops. These troops have been training for hundreds of years, and rival the elves in their use of weapons. Limitations of the Heavenly Army only allows ONE of any regiment to participate in a Cathayan Army.
Special Items Used by the Heavenly Army:
Heavenly Sheilds: Offer +2 to the armour save instead of the origional. Parallel to the use of the Enchanted Sheild. Costs 25 Points
Heavenly Blades: Used for Champions and higher ranking troops. Does D3 hits per attack. 50 Points
Jade Armour: Used for Champions and higher ranking troops. Offers a 4+ Magical Save, with an additional 4+ Dispel and reroll special save of 5+. Costs 130 Points.
Heavenly Armour: Used only by Generals. Offers 4+ Special Save and 4+ Dispel. 175 Points.
Charonite Emblems: Offer +1 to Initiative and Leadership. 15 Points.
Charonite Mail: Same use as Heavy Armour
but does not use movement penalties. 7 Points. This also applies to horse
barding, but for an additional 10 points, meaning 17 points for a troop
wearing Charonite Mail, with a horse with Charonite Barding.
The
Broken Rank Tactic
The Broken Rank Tactic was a skill developed by the Cathayan Emperor Kwan during his battle against the Skaven. During the process of Hand to Hand combat, where the rear two ranks are not engaged, they are permitted to encircle the enemy by charging the enemy at the sides. However when a unit does this, they lose all their rank bonus. During combat, when this occurs, after the 2 rear ranks have left the main group and are fighting, if there are still 3 more ranks, without combat, they count as a single rank bonus. If there is a fourth, then rank bonuses are added once more. If there is a fifth, then there are 2 rank bonuses.
The Regiments charging at the sides, are still a part of the regiment, and so are affected by magical items such as the Dread Banner, or the Banner of Sheilding. Thus, they can still be broken if the main regiment is defeated in hand to hand combat, or shooting.
Note that only Heavenly troops and the only acception of Kwan Broadswordsmen and Palace Guards can use this tactic. No other regiments are permitted.

The Queen Mother is the foremost important figurehead in the realm of Magic which flourishes in the Heavenly Empire. Her personal guards, like her son, the Jade Emperor, are deadly. They guard the Queen Mother with the strictest of all behaviors, and some say, are more well trained than the Jade Guards themselves.
Rules: The Queen Mother’s Guards always join with the Queen Mother in battle. They never leave her side, and are always on alert. If the Queen Mother is slain during battle, then the guards are subject to Hatred for the entire enemy army, as well as frenzy. The unit is permitted to include a magic standard for 50% of the origional point cost, rounding up to the closest point. Example: banner of sheilding costs 25 Points, therefore the Guards may have this banner for 13 points. Like the Jade Guards, they are immune to psychology affects, and never break.
