All Simmons has been framed and murdered but comes back five years after his death as a HELLSPAWN because he made a deal with the devil (the MALEBOLGIA). He doesn't remember anything when he arrives on earth, his face is burned away and he is made totally out of Necroplasm, some sort of green, heavy stuff. (he weighs 450 pounds !!) All of a sudden he starts getting flashbacks of his wife and he figgers out what happened: In order to see his wife again he 'signed' a contract with the Malebolgia and became one of Malebolgia's soldiers on earth...these so called soldiers are to gather souls for hell's army in order to prepare for the ultimate war between heaven and hell: ARMAGEDDON. In the first couple of issues we are also introduced to THE VIOLATOR a.k.a THE CLOWN....some sort of 'babysit' for Spawn....his job is to look after Spawn and sometimes trigger him to take the necessary actions because at first, every new hellspawn is confused (he doesn't know where he comes from, who he is, has no one he can trust etc... etc...) Sometimes the Clown gives him some info or makes certain arrangments with other people so Spawn is never left without action !!!......As the story continued we got introduced to another bunch of cool side-characters, like Sam and Twitch, two detectives who get mingled up in the Spawn case when the violator kills some members of the mafia and everybody accuses the Spawn. Billy Kincaid, a child killer and a bastard son from police chief Jennings is killed by Spawn, this event leads to the firing of Sam and Twitch who go on as private investigators and the eventuall suicide of chief Jennings who couldn't stand the pressure of being the father of a child killer. Other interesting characters are Angela and Tiffany....two angels from heaven who's job is to hunt and kill hellspawn's...Angela is the oldest one and has the most experience, through time, she has killed more than one spawn and besides that, she is very good-looking and sexy. Tiffany was a young and inexperienced new angel and was very jealous of Angela, she felt that Angela has crossed the line between Heaven and Hel, an aversion brought on by Angela's consorting with Spawn (see the Angela's mini-series)...Tiffany went to earth to take Spawn's head. Her goal was to kick Angela out of her thrown and show her for the traitor she believes she is. But Spawn defeated Tiffany leaving nothing but a mound of rotting bones....up on till now, we still don't know if she's really dead, let's hope she comes back in further issues.Then we have Cogliostro, he wanders around the alleys and all I can say about this guy is that he looks like one of the alley folks (Spawn's only real friends), he helps Spawn with advice whenever he can and is also a hellspawn but somehow he has freed himself out of Malebolgia's grip. (something Spawn will eventually also do I guess, but when that happens, when Spawn learns how to control his living costume, his powers and himself the story will be finished). Wanda Blake, Spawn's wife when he was alive is remarried to Terry Fitzgerald, Spawn's best friend before his death....together they have something Spawn could never give Wanda: a child (Cyan)...You can imagine how all of this drives Spawn crazy. Terry works for the CIA, the big boss there is Jason Wynn, he is as close with the president as you with your mom but he is corrupt as hell and ordered All Simmons' death because All wouldn't do anymore of Jason's dirty work. Spawn knows Wynn killed him but can't do nothing about it because Wynn's death would trigger some other kills (Wanda and Cyan !!!!), so you can see the dilemma here. In some of the latest issues Spawn has revealed himself to Terry and together they are trying to uncover Jason Wynn's illegal activity. Other interesting characters are mob boss Tony Twist (Antonio Carlo Twistelli), the boss of bosses in New York, also know as Don Dracula (he drains the life out of his ennemies). In the early stages of the story he orders Overtkill (a killing machine by the maffia) to take out Spawn (eventually Spawn kicks Overtkill's but bigtime). Spawn also kills some of Twistelli's man so the mob boss is also involved in the story. One of my favorites is the redeemer: God's own eraser. Chosen and transformed into an Anti-Spawn, subcontracted by heaven to redeem and destroy Spawn on earth. Many have worn the uniform of The Redeemer but few have been able to wear and use the power within it.....'nuff said. Other cool characters that have passed the revue are The Curse, Cygor, Tremor, Grandma Blake and Bobby (Spawn's best friend in the NY alleyways)......So, after almost 75 issues of Spawn a whole lot has happened, it would take me a couple of hours to type it all down...but from now on, come to my site for the Spawn summary of the latest issue, starting with issue nr. 72......and if you got a question concerning Spawn don't hesitate to mail me, I will answer it a.s.a.p !!!
SPAWN 72: Bootsy steps between Spawn and Wolfram, the vampire, to keep them from destroying each other. When Wolfram mentions a nest of vampires in the area Spawn goes to investigate just as the police arrive and take Bootsy in for questioning. At the police station, Bootsy passes a cryptic message to Sam and Twitch. Elsewhere, in an abandoned warehouse, a child is being tortured. Spawn breaks in, kills the abusers and releases the child who reveals an enblem blazoned across his belly.
SPAWN 73: Cog leaves a file on Lt. Colonel Al Simmons with Sam and Twitch and then meets up with Bootsy in the alley where they discuss Spawn's future. Meanwhile, when Eddie Beckett tries to explain his feelings after finding a bag of necroplasm, he is nearly beaten to death by a member of the Dimino family. The necroplasm seeps out of the bag towards it's newfound host and Eddie Becket is painfully reborn as The HEAP. Then, Spawn's necroplasm mysteriously draws him to the "dead zone" where he is engulfed by The HEAP.....
