Racing Returns
After a 7 month leave of absence from the RC Racing scene, the Simi Valley Ground Pounders came back to life on January 10th of 1999. With the help of it's members, great RC Manufactures, Marty's Hobbies, and Dan Moynihan and Roland Bayly of Hobby Tech we had a great event. We had a full field of 4wd Touring cars including 2 of the new
HT-1 Ready to Run sedans produced by Hobby Tech and brought out by Dan and Roland. Along with running spectator races with these cars, Dan and Roland joined the action of the Sedan class with them, and it's amazing how well these cars handle for a RTR kit. We also ran a GTP Pan car class which this time included all the Kasten clan running against....ME. 5 cars and only 1 racer outside the Kasten family. Needless to say a Kasten won the race. We have some special plans for the Pan Cars on February 7th as you will read below. We also ran our usual insane go fast turn left...(well sorta left then a bit right then left then...well you get the idea) Open Oval. We had 1 Pan Car, 3 4wd Sedans, 1 2wd sedan, and an OffRoad truck...see why it's called open. We had a great time and gave out loads of goodies in the raffle. If you can believe it BOTH $50 MIP gift certifiactes went to the same family, can you say CVD and titanium ball studs everywhere. We gave away a $20 gift certificate to Marty's Hobbies which was won by the Kasten family to replace the wheels they broke and the drive belt that kept Jack out of the 4wd sedan race. We had a lot of other assorted products from Robinson Racing, Integy, RC Car Action, BRP, and Traxxas and I heard no complaints from the winners, so everyone must have loved them. I have posted a thank you to these companies with a list of the exact products on the Race Results Page of the site and would also ask all of you to remember their generous donation when it comes time to replace those worn parts at the hobby store. By the way, Marty's Hobby store would be a good place to do that. Even though we ended up with a slightly smaller track than we plan to run in future races we all had a great time and are looking forward to seeing your happy faces at the next race on the 7th. But wait...that's just the beginning..........
February 7th Race
As I mentioned we have some special plans for the race on the 7th. I recieved some
news this evening that made my day.         RC CAR MAGAZINE will be attending the February 7th race
At the urging of our new friend Dan Moynihan, RC Car Magazine will be coming to shoot a story about local clubs and how to get started. Dan Moynihan and Dan from RC Car will be looking to help promote the idea of local club racing for the fun of it. After all, that's why we do it, for the FUN!! Rumor has it that John "Doogie" Howell the Associate Editor may even be there. If you have any friends that would like to have a FUN day of racing and a chance to see how a story in your favorite RC mag gets started, bring them out. We are planning to have our raffles again. Barbie will be heading to Marty's Hobbies to get us some great prizes. We are looking at getting a motor or 2, some tires, and other assorted goodies. If you have any ideas of what you would like to see in future raffles, be sure to email us at
barbwyr@geocities.com and let us know.
As I mentioned we have some special plans for the PanCars coming on the 7th. At the end of the last race we decided to run the PanCars as NASCAR Winston Cup cars on the oval. So, if you want to run your PanCar, just put a stock car body on it and paint it up to match your favorite NASCAR driver and join us for the action. We will go back to the road course at the next race on february 21st as GTP Stock. We will also be running in the area of the lot next to Am/Pm on the LA / Tierra Rejada side. This area is just the other side of AM/PM from where we were, but it offers us a larger racing area with some shadey area for pitting. The Oval should be larger like we used to run behind Target and this leaves us with a larger area for our Road Course. This event should be even bigger and more fun than the January 10th race, so I hope to see you all out there.
