The West Virginia Poetry Society
AZsacra International Poetry Award "Soldier Killed in Iraq Mourned." a poem by Sal Buttaci
I was heartened to learn I was
the recipient of the $500.00 AZsacra International
Poetry Award For Taj Mahal Review's December 2007 issue.
The winning poem "Soldier Killed in Iraq Mourned" came straight
from the heart, a memorial poem for a young man from Lodi, New
Jersey, named Vincenzo Romeo, who gave his life on the
battlefield so that all Americans can be free.
Recently, I spoke with Vincenzo's parents to let them know I am
forwarding to them a copy of the Taj Mahal Review in which my
winning poem appears. I thanked them for their son's courage
and sacrifice.
