John Lennon

A CD which tracks in at under 60 minutes, this collection is notable for the inclusion of the live, acoustic guitar version of Imagine and the 1970 live version of Instant Karma, both of which are more difficult to find than most Lennon material. Maybe that's because neither was aired on Westwood One's Lost Lennon Tapes broadcasts and were not released on Bag Records' Lost Lennon Tapes series.

The quality of recordings varies - the rarer material is not as good as the others. And, some of the songs are abruptly cut off at the end (e.g., #9 Dream) when there is actually more to be heard. It's a bit maddening.

All in all, I'd say it was poorly put together, but, does include the two rarities mentioned above. [November 1998 update: The Imagine mentioned above has now been released on the official John Lennon Anthology, in great sound.] Also of interest is Let's Twist Again, which supposedly has JL on a David Bowie session. I'm not familiar enough with this history to know if this is a Lennon recording or not - I can't hear him. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
