In 1994, Troop 225 went on a backpacking expedition through the mountains
of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch. Our first objective after
arriving was to determine the route we were going to take, so we studied
the map and developed an itinerary.

Of course, once we were out on trail we quickly became accustomed to
drinking the refreshing iodized water.

After a day of hard but fun hiking it just felt really good to
sit down and relax. Luc, our ranger, stayed with us for the first two
days of our eleven day trip.

At Clear Creek we got an opportunity to try tomahawk throwing. After a
bit of practice we started to get the hang of it.

Also at Clear Creek we performed some service projects, including the
construction of erosion control bars and the removal of a fallen
Ponderosa pine from the area, which required the use of a two-man saw.

The highest point which we reached during our trek through the wilderness
was Mt. Phillips at 11,711 feet above sea level. Here is one of the many
awe inspiring views that could be seen from atop Mt. Phillips. This
view faces south.
