PHILMONT
In 1994, Troop 225 went on a backpacking expedition through the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch. Our first objective after arriving was to determine the route we were going to take, so we studied the map and developed an itinerary.

Of course, once we were out on trail we quickly became accustomed to drinking the refreshing iodized water.

After a day of hard but fun hiking it just felt really good to sit down and relax. Luc, our ranger, stayed with us for the first two days of our eleven day trip.

At Clear Creek we got an opportunity to try tomahawk throwing. After a bit of practice we started to get the hang of it.

Also at Clear Creek we performed some service projects, including the construction of erosion control bars and the removal of a fallen Ponderosa pine from the area, which required the use of a two-man saw.

The highest point which we reached during our trek through the wilderness was Mt. Phillips at 11,711 feet above sea level. Here is one of the many awe inspiring views that could be seen from atop Mt. Phillips. This view faces south.
