Savage Garden is the two-man band from down under:Daniel Jones and Darren Hayes. Daniel is the tall, blond instrumental genius; Darren is the dark-haired lead singer with the voice of an angel. This is how they met:
Five years ago, in Brisbane, Australia, while working on new songs, Daniel placed an ad for a singer. Darren answered it, and the two immediately hit it off. They decided to record an album. Darren's family were, not surprisingly, shocked when he told them that he was going to become...a rock star. At first, Daniel and Darren had a disagreement over a name. Finally, they both discovered that they had a mutual liking for Anne Rice novels, in particular, The Vampire Chronicles. So the two decided to call themselves Savage Garden. Their self-titled debut album took about 8 months to make.
Savage Garden's first single, I Want You, immediately sky-rocketed to the top of the charts. It's fast tempo and catchy lyrics made it popular all over the world. (I'm happy to say that I Want You was the #1 song of 1997 in my city.) They then released To The Moon And Back, and Truly Madly Deeply, which Darren wrote for his wife, Colby. (Also I'm proud to say that Truly Madly Deeply stayed longer at #1 than Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On!)
Since their debut, they have appeared on numerous TV shows, such as the Rosie O'Donnell Show. Last year, they won a total of 10 awards at the ARIA, breaking the previous record of 6 awards. Way to go, guys!!!!!!!!
Since then, they've released Break Me Shake Me in Canada. They won the award for the Best Selling Australian Band at the World Music Awards.
