The RX-7 is one of the coolest sports car that I have seen. Under the Hood is the Wankel engine.. aka the rotary engine. These cars are very neat due to the fact that they have no Pistons in them at all. A rotary engine's piston is it's rotor, a triangle shaped object. Confused? Then click Here to see a Gif showing how this car workx. These will produce very high RPM's before they "redline". Mine redlines at about 7000 RPM's and screams going down the road. On the right is a crappy picture of my car. This picture was taken in the sun and it was Dirty, so it looks kinda yellow... My car is actually silver, and is probably washed right now.. ;). On the left shows a RX-7 that looks almost exactly the same as mine, but it is clean.. :) (I wish I had those rims too)... My car is a 1st generation "make" of the RX-7... from the three generations of this car. The 3rd generation of RX-7's is probably one of the best sports cars ever made, but as Ford started to buy out more of Mazda, one of Ford's decisions was to temporarly end the Rotary Program within Mazda... Giving the RX-7 no time to compeat against other cars.. :( But these cars completed a lot of Progress over the years, and in the future, the Wankel engine has proven to preform as a steam powered engine running off of Hydrogen fuel.
Facts of my Old Car
- 1984 RX-7 GSL Model
- New Power Pulse Muffler (10/11/97)
- Grey exterior / Black Trim
- 107,000 miles... Apex seals need replacing..
My RX-7's... (Take Two) |
Soon after I sold my 84' GSL (for only 1000... some haggler got me good... at least he
was an enthusist), I was off looking for my secong gen. After about two months of searching,
I found an 87' Sport model. This has been the best car that I have owned to date. It was a
bit worn from the previous owner, but it still drove great. I filled in the dents and put some new
paint on her, she looked great. This car did end up proving to be a bit un-reliable however. I
think that the previous owner may have driven it too hard (It already had 170,000+ miles on it anyways).
I ended up having to sell the car my fresman year in college in hopes to get a more reliable car to
transport me from home to school. DOH! I never got a chance to scan any pictures of the car,
but my car was practcally exact to the pictutres shown... same color/rims... everything (it's actually
Scott Stachiw's 2nd Gen). I now am the owner of an 89 Honda Accord... I just can't wait to graduate...
hopefully I'll be able to buy a 3rd gen someday....
Crappy Accord |
Man this thing has been giving me trouble lately. The clock stopped working on the dashboard,
the carburetor needs replacing, the windsheild is cracked, and I have the worst time driving this
thing in cold weather... I'll be spending all summer working on this thing to getting it running right
again. Just to let you see what the car looks like anyways...
RX-7 Info |
-There were three makes of the RX-7, 1st gen, 2nd, and third. 1st Generation
(78-85), 2nd Generation (86-92)The 3rd Generation (93-95)
- RX-7's do not use the conventional engine (one using pistons/cams/etc).
Instead, there are two slightly rounded triangle "rotors" that are offset 60
degrees of each other. There are only three moving parts in the Rotary
engine. Here is an image showing how the engine works.-You Can Click Here to see the basic specifications of these cars.
-Enough already... I'll let you goto my links section below to see what the
hype on these cars is all about!
I Hope to get one of these babies someday.... |
