A&M USA rereleases two Police songs

There is a UK 5"CD promo for Walking on the moon, which is strange cause this was never released in the UK.

Sting & The Police - Walking on the moon - Roger Sanchez EVA radio edit 3.42

Cover and disc are the same as the German and the Australian one. I saw this disc advertised in America for $75.00. Its certainly not worth this amount of money, but the funny thing is that none of my regular UK dealers could deliver this item at all, my copy finally came from Autralia (?).

Benjamin Vincent announced the release already a couple of weeks ago. Ofcourse I had never heard of this band I Muvrini but I must say that the CD is better than the song Sting is doing with them.

Sting can make his "Duets" CD now cause he did so many of them the last couple of years. Well this is not my favourite, buy the album cause you like to hear something else, is well worth.

LATIN, REGGAE ARTISTS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE THE POLICE

Plastilina Mosh, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Shaggy, and Toots & the Maytals will be paying homage to the Police by appearing on two different tribute albums -- one consisting of Latin acts and one of reggae artists, both of which are due out this summer on the Miles Copeland- founded Ark 21 Records.

The Latin album, titled Outlandos D' Americas: A Latin Tribute to the Police, also features appearances by former Police members Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, and is scheduled to hit store shelves on Sept. 8. For this release, Plastilina Mosh will cover "Walking on the Moon"; Ex-Caifanes frontman Saul Hernandez reworks "Does Everyone Stare"; ex-Soda Stereo singer Gustavo Ceratti does "Bring On the Night"; Control Machete covers "The Bed's Too Big Without You"; and Desorden Publico does "Man in a Suitcase."

Other tracks on the album include Los Pericos, "Darkness"; Lucybell, "Invisible Sun"; Puya, "Spirits in the Material World"; Soraya, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"; King Chango, "Englishman in New York" (which is actually a Sting solo song); Skank, "Wrapped Around Your Finger"; Enrique Bunbary, "No Time This Time"; and Ekhymos, "Message in a Bottle." The Los Fabulosos Cadillacs track has not yet been determined. All of the lyrics and song titles on this album will be translated into Spanish.

As for the reggae album, dubbed Reggatta II, Toots & the Maytals will cover "Canary in a Coalmine"; Shaggy collaborates with Rayvon on "Demolition Man"; Big Mountain does "Man in a Suitcase"; Inner Circle, of "Bad Boys" fame, reworks "King of Pain"; and Third World covers "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da."

The other tracks consist of Freddie McGregor, "Rehumanize Yourself"; Aswad, "So Lonely"; Bim Sherman, "Bring on the Night"; Louchie Lou and Michie One, "Don't Stand So Close to Me"; and the British Link featuring Phillip Leo, Tenor Fly, and Sweetie Irie, "When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around." Reggatta II is due out on June 30.

Released on Toon Records, Cat No TOON1CD, the 3 track CD singles has a Radio Edit, the Toon Army Version, and an Instrumental Version. Also available on cassette single!

Work up early this morning and I jumped out of bed
I didn't have to wear my work clothes, I put on this shirt instead
It's a black and white jersey, it's a thing I couldn't hide
'Cos it's almost a religion and I wear it with some pride

Now the streets are all empty in this little town of mine
I was born to make this journey like the ships outside
I've got my ticket to London, and a little bit of cash
I've got this black and white jersey nice and clean for the match

Now tell me, why is the whole world staring?
Must be the shirt I'm wearing

Black and white army
Bringing the pride back home, we'll be
Bringing the pride back home
Bringing the pride back home
Black and white army

It's been a long hard season, been a long hard year
And they're telling us that we're lucky, so lucky, to be here
But if we all stand together and hold our heads up high
We will raise up our voices and tell it to the sky

This time they can't deny us
This time they won't get by us

Black and white army
Bringing the pride back home, we'll be
Bringing the pride back home
Bringing the pride back home
Black and white army

You'll never understand us if you thought that we'd give up
'Cos it's more than just a game, and it's more than just a cup
'Cos we're marching the length of England and I wouldn't tell no lie
I'll wear this black and white jersey till the day I die

Now tell me, why is the whole world staring?
Must be the shirt I'm wearing

Black and white army
Bringing the pride back home, we'll be
Bringing the pride back home
Bringing the pride back home
Black and white army

Cheers

Hi folks,

OK, to make this mail a bit Police-related here is a little review of the Andy Summers concert I attended while spending a wonderful holiday in California.

Andy Summers: May 9th, 1998 Los Angeles, Hollywood Athletic Club

The concert started at 9:10 PM and lasted for about 105 minutes so Andy played one long instead of two short sets. The other musicians were Jerry Watts on bass and a marvellous Bernie Dressel on drums. He started the gig with a slow blues number I haven't heard so far. Then came "The last dance of Mr. X", "Afro Blues" and "World gone strange".

I don't know the exact sequence of the following songs but if memory serves right the songs were (in no particular order):
- Strange earth
- But she
- Monk hangs ten
- Blues for snake
- Big thing
- and maybe one or two more numbers I don't remember.

He played only one encore (you guessed it...), "Message in a bottle".

All in all I was not really satisfied with this concert because I have seen Andy perform much better on his last tour. But this had several reasons: The place did not serve this occasion right, the 60-70 people which were present were far too less for this rather huge hall. In addition, the stage was rather high and the spotlights so bright that Andy merely could not see anybody in the audience (in other words: this club would have deserved to be attended by 500 or more persons).

So Andy made his usual (sometimes dirty) jokes but the response was rather low, only a handful of people cheering and screaming. These were the same guys that danced for the only time during the encore "Message in a bottle".

Musically speaking the only convincing musician was Bernie Dressel, he did a really wonderful job. Jerry Watts wasn't that good, he seemed to be a bit tired. And even Andy made some mistakes I have never seen before (at one point he even failed to grap the guitar neck when changing the position for a new chord...).

For me it was also a bit strange that Andy chose to play at this special date: He just returned a few days before from his European tour and will continue touring in South America (this time playing just the acoustic guitar) so I can see no reason why he should perform the 'Mr. X' tracks once again.

Anyway, in the end a bad Andy Summers concert is still more interesting than the usual Sting concert (MF-period) and as we made a visit at the Copeland's 'Backstage Cafe' in Beverly Hills the next day the time spent was really worth it.

OK, thanks for your time and I hope to 'see' you all very soon!

Keep it up,
Ruediger

These two Digital Memories cd's were released also last year. They came in a jewel case and this time its a paper sleeve. The cover on both sides and the disc is identical to the first release.
