ANDY SUMMERS - THE LAST DANCE OF MR. X
RCA Victor 09026-68937-2, USA
The first thing you ask yourself your when you read the title of Andy Summers' new album "The Last Dance of Mr. X" is, "who the hell is Mr. X" ? Does it refer to himself ? Might this be his last album or does it refer to something or somebody else ?
It surely is the best album I've heard in the past years. The album features a remake of "Big Thing" which was originally released on "World Gone Strange". It surely one of the nicest tracks on this album. "Strange Earth" seems to be an extended version of "Dream Trains" which was also released in on "World Gone Strange" in 1991. For the first time Andy's plays compositions from other musicians. Only 5 tracks of the album come from his hand and 6 tracks of other jazz musicians. Nevertheless one can hear the typical Summers' style in all the songs. It's surely worth to buy !
Track listing: written by:
1. Big Thing (A. Summers/D. Hentschel/D. Smith)
2. The Three Marias (Wayne Shorter)
3. Strange Earth (Andy Summers)
4. Afro Blue (Mango Santamaria)
5. The Last Dance of Mr. X (A. Summers)
6. Lonely Woman (Horace Silver)
7. We See (Thelonius Monk)
8. Rumpelstiltskin (A. Summers)
9. The Somnambulist (A. Summers)
10. Footprints (Wayne Shorter)
11. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Charles Mingus)
Musicans:

Toni Levin: Bass
Gregg Bissonette: Drums
on "Big Thing":

Bernie Dresel: Drums

Hi folks,
I'm not sure who asked for this but this year an (official) CD was released from Sting's participation at the Perugia Jazz Festival on July 11, 1987.
The CD is called "Strange Fruit" (Sting and Gil Evans) and has the catalogue# ITM 1499.
In contrast to the well-known "Last Session" bootlegs this one has less songs from the Jazz Festival itself but has also tracks from a Gil Evans concert.
The exact tracklisting is like this:
1. Tea in the Sahara 8.40*
2. Exp 9.24* (this is "Up from the skies" as on the "Fragile"-CD;
3. Sureal 7.26 (this one, as all the other numbers without the *, is from Nov 5, 1976 Beograd)
4. Consider me gone 6.19*
5. Strange fruit 7.02*
6. All over 13.20
7. Little wing 9.39*
8. There comes a time 4.37*
9. Tribute to M. 3.09
Some news about acetates now. Acetates are test pressings on vinyl which doesn't mean that they are released that way. Mostly the vinyl is very heavy and usually some rare mixes are on them aswell which were never released anywere (happend with the Beatles a lot).
Too bad this did not happen with Sting so often (only one I know is the real test pressing of shape of my heart with b-side A day in the life).
Compare the acetate with a testpressing, which is advertised more often in magazines, than the acetate is more rarer than the test pressing. Probably only a max of 5 copies will be made of an acetate, normaly of a test pressing around 20 to 25 copies (these are on normal weight vinyl).
This time I can write about:
*If you love somebody
One track acetate on Masterpiece label with "Brothers in Rhythm soundtrack" (11.20) track.
This is ofcourse for: THIS COWBOY SONG If you love somebody. (Brothers in rhythm soundtrack) 10.53 special one track - UK 12" promo AMDJ 3
*If you love somebody
Soul power deep dub (7.58)/Soul power mix (6.37)/ Soul power hip hop (5.15) on Whitfield Street Studios label.
This is ofcourse for: WHEN WE DANCE Edit 4.37 / If you love somebody.. (Soulpower Deep Dub) 7.30 / If you love somebody... (Soulpower Hip Hop mix) 5.01 / If you love somebody... (Soulpower mix) 6.21 - UK 12" promo STINGDJ 12

I actually have a question you might want to include. I seem to remember "Murder By Numbers" being the one album track left off the Police complete guitar tablature book. I could be wrong, but I remember it not being in there. I was wondering why it was omited, and if any of us freaks could provide me with the chords to the chorus, as I have already located those to the verse. Thanks.
Erwin Kempen : Scott, I think that the rerason why it was left out was that it is a b-side of the single "Every breath you take". Too bad cause its a fantastic song I think.
