Butterfly Bahiana, inspired by the pattern for a face mask,
which became the centerpiece for the headpiece, instead.
Gave new meaning to the phrase, "Hoop it Up"!
The white fabric was printed with fluorescent butterflies!
I never stood under a black light, but I bet I'd glow if Idid....
This is the outfit I wore the year Austin had an ice storm!!
We walked/slid from my S. Congress apartment to the Coliseum, until
a group of guys in a van on their way to Carnaval stopped to pick us up,
to give us a ride the rest of the way.  Good thing it was a van
and not a VW Beetle!!!  What traffic stoppers we were that night!
(Well, we would have been, if the streets hadn't been iced over.
That night, instead of seeing pink elephants, drivers saw us
traipsing down along Congress Avenue....)  And, yes, it was worth it!
We had a slumber party at my place overnight; when the temperatures
warmed enough to make the streets a bit safer the next afternoon, I 'let my people go'.
That's Carmen Banana on the right, at 'her' annual Halloween Ball later that year.
