J & J's Place
Stephen King
I enjoy King's writing far more for his ability to capture how events feel than for any horror value in his stories, even though he excels at that part as well. He captures perfectly what it's like to wake up from a nightmare as a child or an adult, or not to be able to wake up from the nightmare even when you know it's only a dream, or that first shy date with hormones raging, or that kick in the balls during that barroom brawl you're mentally kicking yourself for getting involved in. You name it, any event, large or small, in a persons life and King can make you feel as if you are going through the experience yourself instead of reading a story. I've laughed out loud reading his stuff on many occasions, causing people who are not King or horror fans to look at me as if I've lost my mind for doing so while reading a horror book. What they don't understand is the fact that the laughter stems from my own recollections of events in my past that he describes so well I have to search my memory to see if he actually witnessed the event.

Some of the J Says segments contain plot spoilers, so if you haven't read the books you might just want to read the Jacket Blurb segments since they're only what you'd read on the cover if you picked up the book in a book store.

On to the books!
