Frankie & Ernie
Full Names: Frankie (left) & Ernest (right)
Given B-day: March 21, 1988
Crossed:Unknown
History:
The call came one day from my room mate that there were
two impromptu guests at KFC, her workplace. One of her co-
workers had found two kittens in a dumpster across the
street. He took them back to KFC, hissing & spitting to
get wamrth & food. I guess the crew more or less adopted
them and named them Frank & Ernest.
My roomie called again two nights later to tell me that
we'd have house guests and wanted to know if I could pick
them up. When I did, I fell in love immediately! It was
heartbreaking to see the terror in their little faces, though!
Considering where they were found & the fact that
they were afraid of everyone, we were sure that they'd
been abused.
For several days, neither kitten would let us near and
Ernie would hiss on sight. Then came the day when my
roomie was able to hold Ernie. Wonder of wonders, he be-
gan to purr! Frank was a little more reluctant but we
eventually won him over, too. After we were finally able
to love on Frank, we realized that this was a girl and
changed her name to Frankie.
Such sweet, gentle kitties! Once they found out they
were loved, that's all they wanted to do! They grew into
beautiful cats! Frankie was delicately built while Ernie
became huge! He was a well muscled cat!
Eventually, my roomie moved away and the two of them
were mine until I fell on hard times. My friend agreed
to keep my cats for me while I looked for a job & apart-
ment. Oh how I missed them! No Frankie to nuzzle in my
hair, no Ernie to fill my lap or soothe me with his deep,
throbbing purr! For me it was torture! I'd never been
without cats before and I hated it!
I was having a hard time finding a job and my friend
was getting impatient. Finally, she told me that I would
have to find a new home for Frankie & Ernie. I begged
her to wait a little longer but she was firm. Even though
I had one of my two jobs by then, I still hadn't saved
back enough for an apartment. That job was only part time
and it would take awhile to save enough.
My friend got hold of me again to say that she was
not going to wait any longer. She would be bringing them
the next day. I cried all night! I knew that I couldn't
have them where I was staying. Defeated, I called my
mom.
She has a friend on a farm who takes cats in from
time to time. Mom called her and reported back that the
friend would take my babies. She was very good to all
of her cats. I wasn't at all worried about their care!
They were in good hands.
My biggest problem was the feeling of guilt. I felt
like I'd taken them in and abandoned them. At the time
I had no choice. It was worse knowing that their rescuer
is also the one who forced me to send them away! I don't
know how she could've done that to them!
They went to the farm and seemed to be happy. The
lady fell in love with them, too. I didn't have her num-
ber so I kept tabs through Mom. That was sketchy at best!
Two months after they left, I had both jobs and my
home.
I didn't hear of their passings until months after
the fact. I'm still in mourning for these two! Now that
they've crossed over, I hope they know that I wanted to
keep them forever!
My sweet, precious babies, I've never forgotten you,
never stopped loving you, never wanted to leave you!
Please forgive me!
