Chapter 4
"Shh... Amaya, it will all be okay," Marissa says, stroking her daughter's hair.
"How can you say that Mom? He did that in front of the entire nation! I can't believe he was so weak as to fall for Lacey either," Amaya returns.
"Maybe he isn't the one for you then."
"That isn't right Mom! You know how he is like. This just isn't him."
"Then why did you leave and come here to Salem?"
"Because I need help. I don't know how to deal with this so-called cousin of mine. I know this is her way to get me into battle but I don't know how to do it. Not only that, I'm scared of Sam getting hurt somehow."
"Sweetie, if that is what you want, Grandma and I can teach you how to do this. It will take a lot of concentration but you can do it if you try."
"I want to. Even though I can't stand being with Jeff in the state he is in now, I need to get her out of my life before Sam is hurt."
"Good attitude. Let me get Grandma in here and we'll start going over the basic history and what has happened these past years. Hopefully, we will get you fully ready and trained by the end of the week so you are fit to go back."
"I hope so..." Amaya says, sitting up and staring out the window, at the sun rising over the horizon.
As promised, Amaya is on a plane home, fully ready for anything her cousin Lacey had to throw her way. When she arrives at her house, she sees an unfamiliar car in the driveway. Taking Sam into her arms, she walks to the door and opens it with her keys, not knowing what to expect.
"Jeff! Oh my God, Jeff!" shouted a familiar voice.
'Lacey!' Amaya thought before turning around and getting out of the house as fast as she could. She straps Sam back into her seat and gets into the car, pealing out of the driveway, heading to Jessica's house.
"Amaya! God, we were so worried about you!" exclaims Jessica when she opens the door to find her friend.
Amaya gives her a big hug. "Sorry I worried you. I didn't mean to. How is everyone?"
"Better now that we know you are okay," Nick says, surprising Amaya.
"Nick! What are you doing here?"
"I was just spending time with Jessica. Where have you been?"
"Visiting with my mother and grandmother."
"You went all the way to Salem?"
"No big deal. I needed to get away."
"Understandable. Where's Sam?"
"She's in the car. Jessica, can I stay here for a while?"
"Sure. Go get Sam and I'll clear the spare bedroom for you two," Jessica answers.
"Thanks so much! I'll explain more when I come back and lay Sam down for her nap," Amaya says before leaving the house and getting Sam, as well as their things, out of the car. She lays Sam down onto the bed in the spare room and comes back out, prepared to tell them the thing that she has kept secret for so long.
"So?" Nick asks.
"You may want to call Justin and Drew over here, as well as Jackie so I don't have to explain this more than once," Amaya says.
"Okay. Sit tight, it will be a while," Jessica says, getting the phone and calling who Amaya said.
In about forty-five minutes, she finds herself ready to tell the story she has been fearing for so long. "Well, I wanted you all here so that I could tell you what is going on. The real truth. You may not believe me, but trust me, I couldn't make something like this up. Yes, I ran off to Salem because of the scene I saw on TV, of Jeff kissing Lacey."
"You know her name? How could you?" Drew asks.
"Let me finish. I know her name because she is my cousin. She's put a spell on Jeff, making him totally under her control."
"A spell? You're kidding me!" Justin exclaims.
"I'm not. Jackie, you knew and suspected me of witchcraft. You know I'm telling the truth."
"She is. When we were in high school, she and I had connections that I never felt with any other person. What convinced me though is that she had powers. Her dreams predicted the future, her feelings were always right, and some things that happened, the interferences of really disastrous things, occurred when she was around. Why did you deny it though?" asks Jackie.
"I didn't want to be labeled as some witch. I am not like the others. I hardly practice and hate to actually do so. My powers weren't fully developed until this past week because I didn't care to pursue it. Growing up, I was told of our family history, where a long time ago, my ancestor, Lydia, had to go into battle with her sister, Lexi, when Lexi became an evil witch. The generations that came from both women were passed on the powers each sister had, as well as the destiny to relive the battle whenever Lexi's line hit every third generation. I'm among the third generation cycle."
"So what does that mean?" Jessica asks.
"It means that I must battle with Lacey to save myself and my loved ones. Unfortunately, this time around, one of us will die."
"What do you mean?"
"The line has come down to the last cycle of three generations for this battle. Lacey is seeking me out and doing everything she can to get revenge on me for the harm she has seen down on her ancestor, Lexi. That's why she went after Jeff. She knew he was the one person in the world who would hurt me the most by rejecting me. Luckily enough, I suspected it earlier on. Now after a week of training, I know what to do and am ready for her."
"You mean to tell me you are actually going to fight her?" Drew asks.
"If it comes to that, yes. I need to save everyone from her."
"But what about you?"
"I'd rather die trying to save you all than sacrifice everyone for the sake of me. I need all of your help though, to bring Jeff back to me."
"What do you mean?" Nick asks.
"I have the spell to break the binding she has on him and to bind her from doing anymore mind controlling spells. I need everyone's energy though."
"How?" Justin asks.
"Everyone grab hands and form a circle. I'll be back with the book."
Nick, Justin, Drew, Jackie, and Jessica all do as she says, leaving her a space between Drew and Jackie. When she comes back, Amaya sets down the book and sits down in her spot. After flipping a few pages, and pulling out a picture of Jeff to look at, she starts chanting the words. After a few seconds, Justin dismisses the idea that Amaya could be for real until he feels a little tingle start happening throughout his body. He looks up and sees that the others have felt it as well. It doesn't hurt but has surprised them all.
Amaya's chanting has become louder and more forceful. There's a scream that echoes throughout the room and then silence. "It's done," Amaya says.
"How do you know?" Nick asks.
"Trust me. Let's go over to the house and check on Jeff. Jackie and Justin, stay here with Sam and protect her from anything, okay? I'll be back for her as soon as I can."
"Sure thing. Good luck Amaya," Jackie says, giving her friend a hug.
The group finds themselves at Amaya's house that she has shared with Jeff for so long. The unfamiliar car is gone. Amaya runs into the house and finds her husband motionless on the floor in the living room. "Jeff!" she exclaims, kneeling down next to him. She puts her fingers on his neck, finding his pulse. Slowly, he opens his eyes and sees Amaya leaning over him.
"Amaya! What am I doing on the ground? How'd I get here? I thought we were still at the awards show."
"Don't worry sweetie, everything is fine and will be okay. I'm glad you're safe."
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"You mean you don't know anything of what has happened these past few days?" Nick asks.
"Nothing at all. It's been days?"
"A week and some since the show buddy," Drew informs him.
"God, what happened?"
"I think you better sit down in a chair before I tell you this..." Amaya starts, helping him move into a chair before telling him who she really is and what happened.
