Chapter 5
The next morning, Jeff finds himself staring at Amaya, lying peacefully in his arms, looking like a perfect angel. 'How is it possible for such a beautiful women to be a witch? I thought all those past witches were ugly with warts on their noses. I wonder if this means that Sam has them too though,' he wonders to himself.
"We won't know if Sam has her powers from me since she is half witch after all until after a year or two. Some witches do have warts on their noses but not all do. That is such an overrated stereotype," Amaya says, not bothering to open her eyes.
"Oh, thanks for clearing that-," Jeff starts, and then realizes that she had answered all those thoughts he just expressed in his head, or at least he thought. 'Did I actually say those things aloud? Plus, I could swear she is asleep.'
"No, I'm awake, just not accepting that I am fully awake. I guess I never let on that I could read your thoughts at times when I want to, huh? That's because I keep it as a rule to stop others' thoughts from flowing into my head since they are their private thoughts. I don't use that power until later on in the day though. Sorry," Amaya says, finally opening her eyes to see Jeff staring at her. "What?"
"Just that I'm not used to all of this. It seems straight out of a science fiction movie."
"Are you okay with it?"
"I think so. I know it doesn't change who you are so it's fine. One request, try not to at least let me know that you are reading my mind. It will give me a sense of security."
"I'll try Jeff."
"Good. Now, what do you want to do today? It feels as if it has been so long since we've been together."
"I have that same feeling. Why don't we take Sam to a park? We could maybe see if the other guys want to come with us."
"Sounds like a perfect, relaxing day. I'll call them if you get Sam ready."
"When do I not get her ready?" Amaya asks, getting out of bed and walking out of their room and into their daughter's bedroom. As soon as she walks in though, she is hit with an absolutely strong, powerful feeling. 'What is going on?' she wonders as she puts a hand to the wall to steady herself. She closes her eyes and finds that it is a mistake for a series of visions come in a steady flow. The first is of a warehouse, followed by Drew being pulled by a black shadow into a room there. Then she sees Justin being chained up in a different area. The last vision she sees though makes her skin crawl in fear: Nick standing, chained against a wall, missing a big patch of skin on his arm.
"Amaya, it looks like the guys won't be coming. I can't get a hold of any of them. Maybe they went to a party or something. Should I-" Jeff begins to ask before he turns into his daughter's room and sees his wife nearly ready to collapse. "Amaya!" Jeff runs to her and catches her just as her legs give out and she falls to the floor.
"Jeff, I know where they are."
"What? Amaya, stay quiet. You are evidently experiencing some major thing that I don't understand but don't waste your energy talking."
"I'm fine Jeff. It's Nick, Drew, and Justin I'm worried about."
"What are you talking about?"
"I just received visions of them all being locked up and mistreated in some warehouse in the bay area. It's Lacey, it has to be."
"That's impossible though. How could a girl of her build get a hold of those three guys?"
"You forget powers allow for anything to be done. I better keep an eye on you. I have a feeling that you are next."
"Now that's comforting. So instead of being hunted down by fans, now I have to worry about being killed by some psycho witch who already has gotten a hold of me under her powers!"
"Jeff, I'm sorry that I brought this danger into your life. Really, I am. I wish that there was something else I could do to keep you out of harm but anything I do can be conquered by her I'm willing to bet. After all of this, if we are still alive, I wouldn't be surprised if you left me," Amaya says before turning around and walking into the kitchen to start breakfast.
"Amaya, wait! There's no way in hell I would give you up without a fight. Don't think I would leave you over this. You aren't the one trying to cause me harm. You stayed by me past Lacey's first spell, and I'd be thankful if you stayed through this one too."
"I promise I will do everything I can not to lose you at all and save the others too."
"With that done, I think I'm going to go take a shower."
"Okay."
Jeff goes over to Amaya and gives her a quick kiss. "I love you Amaya."
"I love you too Jeff. Now, go get squeaky clean."
"Yes Mom," Jeff says, laughing as he goes into their room to take that shower.
An hour later, Amaya finishes making breakfast and wonders where Jeff is. She goes into their room and sees steam escaping under the door. 'Something has to be wrong. He can't possibly be in there for so long.' Amaya opens the door and coughs as the steam instantly engulfs her. She slowly approaches the shower and opens the door. 'What the hell?!?'
Jeff isn't in the shower. She shuts off the water and runs out of the bathroom. "Jeff! Jeff! This isn't funny. Where are you?" Amaya calls out as she anxiously checks the entire house. She goes back to the bathroom and sees writing on the mirror: "He's joined the others. Come and get him at the warehouse if you dare!!"
Just then, the doorbell rings, distracting Amaya. She goes to the door and finds Jessica in tears. "Jessica, what's wrong?"
Jessica silently hands Amaya something wrapped in fabric. Amaya almost drops it as she sees the 98 Degrees tattoo that belongs to Nick in the cloth.
"I found it on our doorstep. What does it mean?" Jessica sobs.
"It means that you need to watch Sam for me while I take care of some business with a certain girl."
"Lacey?"
"Yes! She's gone too far this time. I have to go save the guys but I need you to take care of Sam so I don't have to worry about her too."
Jessica nods her head. "I promise I won't let anything happen to your daughter. I'll call Jackie so she can help me guard her. Just promise me something. Promise me that you will be absolutely careful."
"Trust me, I'll try. I'll pack up some toys and clothes for Sam. It will be safer for you two to be at your house I think."
"Do you know where you're going?"
"Vaguely. She wants me though so she'll make sure I get there, no matter what. I better get going."
Amaya enters Sam's room and starts putting toys and clothes in a backpack. When she's done, she walks over to Sam's bed and smiles despite the current situation. Sam is still fast asleep, oblivious to the trouble that lies ahead.
"Sweet daughter of mine. I hope that you really don't have powers to spare you all of this trouble. I will come back and get you from Jessica and Jackie as soon as I can. I love you," Amaya says as she gently picks Sam up and carries her outside to Jessica's car where Jessica has already placed the child's seat. Sam never wakes up during this process.
"Good-bye Jessica. Be on your guard and take care of yourself," Amaya says, giving her friend a hug. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. See you soon and good luck!" Jessica exclaims, returning the hug.
Amaya watches as Jessica pulls away and drives off with Sam, safely taking them away from danger. The wind starts to pick up and Amaya hears Jeff, Drew, Nick, and Justin all pleading for mercy and asking for help. "I'm coming guys. Please just hang on," Amaya pleads before returning into the house and preparing for the battle of a lifetime.
