This weeks flick is a real Blast From the Past. Some have called it 'THE MADDEST STORY EVER TOLD' but I just call it:

Originally made in 1964 it wasn't released until 1968 and stars that immortal classic horror film star Lon Chaney Jr. and Jill Banner as the too cool, and so hot, Virginia. I gotta tell ya if I had to pick a way to die, it would be playing Spider with Virginia.

The story revolves around the Merrye family and the strange heriditary illness that plagues them.

Starting about age 10 a mental regression occurs, which often manifests itself in rather pyschotic behavour. Fortunately Lon Chaney Jr. is around, as the family chauffeur, to clean up the messes and make sure things don't get too out of hand.

That is until some relatives and a weaselly (aren't they all) lawyer show up to take over the estate.

It is almost hard to tell if this was made as serious horror or as an intentional campy spoof.

It seems serious but then Lon Chaney pokes fun at his previous Wolfman performances. And of course being black and white, it is not very gory but the murder of the delivery man despite it's lack of onscreen violence (we do see an ear sliced off fall on the floor) comes off as particularly brutal. One of my favourite kills ever.

An let's not forget sweet Virginia and her sister. I don't know what it is but they are so cool. I think it's the combination of sweet innocence and brutal killer that makes them so horny.

If ya like campy classic horror, this is a must see, so see it all ready!!!
