A Calming Variety

Butterfly

She flies amid the flowers,
Stopping for sweetness,
Unseen by human eyes.

We marvel at her beauty,
The colors,
The zig-zag motions as she flickers to each pretty petal.

We wish we could capture her,
And hold out a finger in hopes,
That she will land.

Our eyes tear when one caught,
Perhaps by a child,
And her colors, her beauty, end up as dust on a hand.

A butterfly...
Beauty in motion,
Beauty in everyone's heart.

"MY GREATEST JOY"

As we walked along the sidewalk
Her tiny hand in mine
I saw a look of amazement
As she bent to pick a dandilion
Or little purple flower off a weed

She took each up and smelled them
Hoping for some lovely aroma
But never showed any disappointment when there was none
She just giggled as each petal tickled her nose

I thought my greatest enjoyment from out walk
Was seeing the amazement in her eyes
With each new discovery
But I was wrong

My greatest joy was at the end of our journey
When this tiny hand held out to me
A fist full of wilted weeds
With a gleam in her eyes as she said,
"Here Mommy, I picked these for you!"
