Gungadin chuckles at Arina's comment, then pauses a moment before deciding how to answer. "In all honesty, I have no idea why any of us are here. I do know that the Emperor himself sent me here for something that he deemed rather important, but I
suffered a nasty fall on the way here. I can't for the life of me remember what I was travelling for." Gungadin motioned to the rest of the people in the room. "As for Alex Knight, I can only speculate, but... well... he is our Emissary. Upon h
aring that the good Lady Poca was hosting a party, he probably saw it fit to attend. He left quite a while before I did. Gabriel? Well, he's a bard, and a party is always in need of a good bard. As for Nein, well..." Gungadin stared off into the b
onde woman's direction for a moment. "I've learned to never question what's going on in that strange head of her's. For some reason, I have this feeling that I'll live longer this way... Either way... how about you? What brings you and yours this
ay?" Before Arina gets the opportunity to respond, Nein calls for her, frantically waving a flute. Gungadin grins again. "Well then. Perhaps you should join Nein, before I get on her bad side again. I'm glad she let that debt go freely, but I
ouldn't want to push my luck." Gungadin then looks Arina straight in the eyes. "Unless, of course, you'd care to continue..?"

Before taking the viol, Nein extends a hand to Gus and helps him up. "No, thank you", she replies to him, "Skittles always hurt the roof of my mouth. I'm a jelly bean fan myself." She examines the viol, looking at the scroll, plucking the strings, and
he like. "Oh, good- it's tuned in fifths. Looks like I'm ready to go, then. But I'm going to have to ask Arinna to join us- she really is an excellent flautist, you know. You don't mind, do you?" She smiles and rosins her bow.

As Gabriel and Nein sit, he reaches for his bag. He reaches in and grabs an old clockwork watch, and a book of manuscript paper. Looking at the watch, he says, "The time is...eight fifteen and...thirty seconds. Got it?"
Nein gives an affir
ative nod...
"Anyways, here is how it's going..."says Gabriel, pointing at a particular chord progression. "I just don't know what to do with this vii chord...Aw, shucks, this is a party! If we're not gonna dance, we might as well entertain. This is a handy
ag to have..."he says, as he puts away the watch and paper. He then removes a viol and a small set of pipes. He hands the viol to an eager Nein, and sets the pipes to his mouth.
"If you're really a chord progression expert, we should be able t
improvise anything. Would you like to play something? I'll tell the band they can take a rest - they need it after a rousing polka, ... er, Poca, I mean." says Gabriel, with a wide grin on his incredibly freckled face. It breaks into a laugh halfwa
through though.

Again seeming to be in something of a far off stupor, 'Gus' has mindlessly put his feet up on the table and leaned back in his chair. He does not seem to notice the protests of the nearby diners. Rather suddenly, 'Gus' seems to snap back into reality ag
in, this time with a startling a jolt. A jolt, which unfortunately, starts his momentum backwards. Although attempting to stop the inevitable with an awkward circle/waving of his arms, 'Gus' still manages to land hard on his back and sprawl onto the gro
nd. Without so much as missing a beat, 'Gus' remarks with a straight face, "Perhaps that was the best way to phrase that question, Nein. However, I cannot answer it, exactally. Skittle, anyone?" 'Gus' pops a small, brightly colored, disc shaped pellet
into his mouth and gnaws on it for a while.

"Whoo! I don't have the stamina to keep this up much longer. Besides- I can only look like a dork for under 5 inutes at a time." Nein stops dancing, and she and Gabriel make their way to the table. "By the way, would you really resolve that with a iv7
of V? That is a bit weird- especially for this time period. Ah well... to each her own. Yo never know until you try, I suppose." She glances at her watch. "Well, if you don't know the year, could you at least tell me the hour? It's comforting to ha
e an accurate timepiece, at least."

"Gregorian calendar? Well, I don't keep track of that - isn't that what monks are for? And I think it's Saturday, but I could be wrong."
Gabriel and Nein continue their lively dance, which has finally forced the band to play something with a faster beat. One of the waiters looks nervously at a female servant, and says, "Say...um, Laurie, uh...wanna Poca?!"
Soon, the dance floo
was filled with people making utter fools of themselves, as should be. Gabriel grinned at Nein, as if to say, Look what we've started.

Gungadin notices his dance partner's evil grin and raises an eyebrow. He gives her a half-smile in return, then leads the dancing back over toward Gabriel and Nein. Speaking to Arina, he says, "I'm afraid that I'm going to have to agree with Nein
on that one." He then turns his attention toward Nein and continues with "although you shouldn't refer to the viol as a 'darned thing.' It's a beautiful instrument that takes a great deal of skill to master!" With that, Gungadin turns away an
leads his partner out of earshot, where he mutters, "...which is why mine is in a closet back home in Skyweir..." Gungadin grins again at Arina, then dances back toward Nein. "As for the year, well... If you're willing to wait a moment, we'
l be able to give you a more difinitive answer..."

"You be a good boy, now. Flattery will get you nowhere", Nein says with an impetuous grin. The grin fades when she remembers why she wants Gabriel to be a good boy. "This was an unplanned trip", Nein sadly explains to him, "and now it seems that I'm st
ck here. I'm not even sure how I got here, and the only things I have are the clothes on my back and my limited wits." Her cheerful demeanor returns at the mention of music. "To heck with the flute solo. Write it for a nice viol, and then I'll learn ho
to play the darn things. They can't be too different from what I'm used to. By the way, what year is it on the Gregorian calendar? I'd like to know when I'm stuck, at least." She smiles as her companion's coloring gradually turns to normal (meaning t
at a herd of freckles appears on his face) and is happy to be in the company of a good friend.

Nein and Gabriel dance while he asks his friend some questions.
"Nein - I just realized that I've never met the...um, Lady...before. And yet, I feel as though we once were very good friends. I mean, I knew her name...I can almost remember...
armies...amazing magical feats...divine intervention...Gungadin...
Well, at least he's real. Oh, and guess what - I'm writing this song with a really cool chord progression. It starts with an E augmented 4th, then goes to E major, and then D minor, and then back to E major, and then back to the augmented 4th, and then
o B major. I'm not sure what will come of it..."
As he talks, he gets several strange looks, and a servant looks at another and says, "What is he talking about? What is he talking in?"
"Nein," says Gabriel, "do you know what I might have been apologizing for? If nothing else, I hope the song helps smooth over my bursting in here. I have a habit of following Gungadin - that's how I got here. How did you get here? Certainly not
on any animal - "
"By the way, " Gabriel quickly adds, "nice necklace - it looks very nice on you..."
Fittingly enough, Gabriel blushes before Nein...

Gungadin watches Nein and Gabriel dance, and falters in his own dancing for a bit, nearly stepping on Arina's feet. He quickly regains his balance, then continues to dance in a surprisingly elegant way. Gungadin grins as he remembers the past years'

And then Gabriel smiles, so happy is he to be with his friend. The night was passing splendidly - even the great Gungadin was in attendance; a cloe friend of Gabriel's. This narrarator is hard put to contain Gabriel's joy...

A great knocking is heard on the door to the great hall. The party looks at the door - and servants run to open it. Taking large strides, a man with flaming (metaphorically) red hair walks into the hall. He carries a sack and a quiver of arrows. He
hands the quiver to the servant nearest with an expression of gratitude. He holds his bag in front of him, and turns to look directly at the people seated at the table.
"Hi. I'm Gabriel, the Royal Bard of Strikehaven. I have come to spend an evening with my friends - however, I would first ask the Lady to accept a gift and my most sincere apologies."
Gabriel reaches into his bag and pulls out a guitar. He quickly tunes it, and begins to sing in a tenor voice...
Hello, Darkness, my old friend; I've come to speak with you again; Because a vision softly creeping, left its seeds while I was sleeping. And the vision, that was planted in my brain, still remains - within the sounds of silence...
"Recognize it, Nein?
When he finishes, the party lightly applauds. He winks at Nein.
I'd like to say that I wrote just for you, Lady Poca, but my friend Nein brought it to me from the far future - while we both were at Skyweir, the capital of our great nation of Strikehaven. It is called, 'The Sound of Silence'."
He reaches for a proffered glass of liquid refreshment and drinks deeply.
"Wow - this stuff is good. It kinda tickles though. Must be all those bubbles..."
