Kickstart my heart!

So what does music mean to you?
Some pointless hit music played by the radio?
The latest hits?

To me: Music is... Hmmm, more
I wake up in the morning(?) to music (I hate alarm clocks!)
Often, I listen to a CD before heading to my work.
During the day, I have to survive the radio. Why are they always playing those latest hits?
When I get home, I switch on the stereo and it won't get switched off until I go to bed.

Concerts; nothing beats a good concerts!
I'm not interested in music where every tone is correct. That's not important!
The attitude is!
Energy, intensity and the contact between the band and we who are in the crowd.

I suppose that's why I love rock music!
Rock, hard rock, metal and most of all those variations.

When I was young, music was something that accompaned movies. Songs when it was your birthday.
Nothing important, nothing that gave me a kick.

But then (a guess I was 15 or something like that), a friend of mine played a record with Status Quo and for the first time I didn't want to go to school. During the entire day in school I kept checking how long time was left until I could get home and listen to that record!
I had got the first real kick out of music.
Another friend listened to Sweet. My first own 'real' record was 'Give Us A Wink'. Cool folder!
A year later I met a girl. A bit shy, blonde, behaving like you should (acording to the parents). Some would say: Couldn't be much interesting.
But, she listened to Nazareth!
I was shocked, could this be called music? But at the same time I was faschinated: Why was this sweet girl listening to all that noice?
And suddenly: I heard: There was a melody played on the bass! I felt the power, great!

Since I still had no stereo I bought very few records. But slowly, one by one, the collection started to grow. AC/DC, Accept, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Rolling Stones and The Who were among those I did buy.

I spent several summers (or at least weeks of them) at my cousins place. They had a farm and naturally we were outdoors most of the time. They didn't care much 'bout music. They had to cassettes, Beach Boys and Kiss. A few records, some Beatles, one Elton John (I still remember 'Crocodile Rock'!) and a great record by Suzie Quattro.
I was 'always' playing that record, so a few years later, my cousin gave it to me. Thanx Mia!

Finally, I moved to my own place to study at the university. After two years I was approaching a nervous breakdown, I just had to get me a stereo. I worked the entire summer and spent lots of hours trying to find the perfect parts for my stereo.

I was very happy and finally it made sense to buy records! Even though a bought a CD-player from the beginning most of the records where vinyls. I ended up with something like 400 or so LPs. I have kept all of them (except a Black Sabbath which I gave to a friend...) and still listen to them at special occasions.

Nowadays, it's only CDs. I have been forced to replace two CD players due to intense use (one stationary and one portable) but the amplifier remains the same...

In -91 I moved to Stockholm and since it's a fairly large town (capital of Sweden) most of the major bands include it on their tours. Finally I was able to see all those bands I had been listening to. Fantastic! I went to a concert or two every month and slowly started to realize how many smaller bands there were around that played great music.

I found local clubs were nobody cared if the music wasn't loud, rough and soaking in power.
Lovely!
And the festival at Hulstfred. Small town where there's nothing to do. But once a year 20.000+ people go there for a huge party. Everyone is happy, there's music everywhere and...
It's a real happening!

At these days I don't go to that many concerts, maybe a dozen or so each year.
I've got more CDs than LPs so there's hardly a risk that I have to play the same record twice the same night...

And it's still only rock'n roll! (Well, I do have some others but they don't count...!)
