FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Rubberstamped deco in black and red by Anna

Juliet deco by Annaliisa

Why is the group called JDFB_reloaded now?
Basically, it is the same group in a new outfit. The owner of the old JDFB group left decos a long time ago while still remaining as the owner and a new group was created to gain more control over the group's technical features.

How do I join JDFB?
JDFB accepts new members by invitation only. In order to avoid problems encountered in the past, every new member must be recommended by an existing member. If you click the "join now" button on the group's page and we don't know you, you will most likely be denied. Sorry.

Who judges the artistic capabilities of an applicant?
The owner together with the moderators. Please note that artistic excellency is not the only criteria for membership. There are plenty of Yahoo groups that swap artistic decos. We would rather see above-average artists who are trustworthy, friendly and reliable than brilliant artists who are unreliable, mean-spirited and dishonest.

How do you choose which swap themes to run? Are members allowed to run swaps, or suggest swaps, or is it just the moderators who do that?
The moderator in charge of swaps asks for suggestions from the group for themes for every lot of swaps. Members vote in the polls and the most popular themes are chosen. Members can also run their own swaps or RR's of a particular theme if they wish to do so or have the time, but they must first consult with the moderators.

How many swaps are arranged per month?
Themed swaps are organized every second month. Recurrent swaps of established decos are organized every month. The amount of the swaps varies and this information is of no use of non-members anyway. It is enough to say the swaps are very imaginative and there are enough of them. New members are given an intensive tutorial when they first join.

How many decos are passed per swap?
Since it takes time to make elaborate decos, swaps have the minimum of 3 decos and the maximum of 10 decos (but nobody sends that many any longer).

When I sign up for a swap who do I make the decos for? For example, the people in the swap, only other list members, myself or anyone?
You can make the decos for anyone you choose, although members are encouraged to make some decos for others participating in the swap, but this is not compulsory. It is a nice habit to make at least one deco for your partner though.

Do I make one for my partner and send it to her, or do I make one for her and send it to someone else, or should I not make one for my partner?
If you choose to make one for your partner you should send it to her with the other booklets. Most deco swappers don't have any problems with passing on their own starter booklets.

Is there any rule about sending my partner books that will need to be returned after she signs them?
It is courteous not to send homers to your partner with normal swaps, or at least limit them to one. The group organizes special homer swaps for those almost full decos.

Okay, I signed up for a swap and received the swap from my partner. What do I do with the decos she sent after I have signed them? Must they stay within the group, or can I send them to anyone? You can send them to other swappers not in the group if you wish. Although it would be appreciated if you only sent them to swappers you know will sign in the same manner so that the deco doesn't 'morph' into an fb after a few signers. The group regularly runs swaps for established decos and this is an opportunity for you to swap decos within the group to ensure the quality is kept.

What is the group's policy regarding lost mail or a swap that never arrived even though I know it was sent?
All swaps must be honoured. If you partner never receives your swap for whatever reason, it is up to you to reissue the swap, unless she tells you it is not necessary. It is up to you to ensure that all your swaps are correctly addressed and packaged securely with the correct postage on them. If all this is done there shouldn't be a problem with the swap arriving.

Can I drop out of a swap after I've signed up?
Yes, as long as it is before the partners are posted.

Do you have a minimum participation policy? Do I need to join a certain number of swaps per month, or if I go 'no mail' for a period of time will I be unsubbed?
No. We have had members who have been lurkers for years and we honor that. Of course, if you lose your interest in the group, it is more polite to unsubscribe altogether.

Can I request a partner in a certain area, like Europe, USA, etc...?
You may but there is no guarantee that you will get your wish.

What if I'm not happy with a swap I've received? This should not happen on this list. However, if you are not happy with a swap (and please note that merely not liking a person's 'style' is not cause for complaint!), because pages are falling out, or the theme of the swap has not been adhered to, or if it is obvious the decos were made in a rush without much thought, you should contact the list owner by private email and tell her about the swap. The list owner will decide what to do after reviewing how serious your disappointment was.

Do you ever swap anything other than decos, such as deco supplies, magazines, pens etc...?
Deco supplies are swapped occasionally but this is not a gift-swapping list per se.

Can I post advertisements to the list, or attachments, photos, virus warnings, cute stories, jokes, recipes, petition etc...?
Photos are okay. Virus warnings, cute stories, jokes, recipes, chain letters, petitions and other email junk are best avoided. This is a group for personal emails, not impersonal forwards.
