Archangel Michael, whose name is a question, 'Who is like God?', is certainly the best known of all the archangels. Archangel Michael is considered the greatest of all the Angels in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic Religions. He is believed to have appeared to Moses as the fire in the burning bush, and to have rescued Daniel and his friends from the lions' den. To Christians, he's the angel who informed Mary of her approaching death. Islamic lore tells us that his wings are the color of green emeralds and are covered with saffron hairs, each of them containing a million faces, each face with a million eyes, each eye shedding 70,000 tears, and a million mouths with as many tongues which, in a million dialects, implore the pardon of Allah. The Koran also paints the touching image of the cherubim being formed from the tears of Michael.
Michael is the protector of the Christian Church, guardian angel of Israel, and commander-in-chief of God's angel armies. He is known as the Holder of the Keys of Heaven, Chief of the Archangel Army, Angelic Prince of Israel, Guardian of Jacob, and Angel of the Burning Bush. Michael is the Defender of all Believers, especially those who need continual protection: Lightworkers, mothers and all children, and all those who expose themselves to the darker side of life, such as policemen and soldiers. He also watches over and guides all those who have an especially immense or difficult mission to accomplish on their Life Path.
With God's Love and Guidance, he helps us achieve patience and true happiness, lifting our spirits to conquer negativity. He continually guides and protects us against injustice and is with us when we feel sad, overwhelmed or alone in this earthly world. He is at our side during the hour of our passing, leading our soul into the Holy Light and into our Father's arms.
Christian art and iconography show Michael with a sword or with a scale weighing the souls of the dead. Most recently, in 1950, Pope Pius XII declared Michael to be the patron of all policemen. His feast day is September 29.
