Misty

Misty is an Apendix Quarter Horse mare, 14.1 hands high, chestnut, and has a medium build. Apendix for those of you who don't know means she has Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred in her. (and 1 hand equals 4 inches -measured at the withers, where the shoulder and neck meet). We're not sure how old she is, we think she was born in 1983, but she looks great (as you can see). It is thought that she barrel raced, but we are only positive about the years of her life since 1993. She was a trail horse (at a guided trail ranch) then her owner bought her, and now she is kept at MHS.
I started working with her in April of 1998 and even her personality improved. The first time I got on, she was very nervous. I spent the time trying to get her to bend in a little, walk without trotting, stay away from the gate, and circle a little. When I did ask her to trot is was an all out run. She was very nervous and didn't really know what to do. After a bit more walking Misty did small amounts of trotting (4 or 5 strides) and was more relaxed and a lot slower! The next time I got her to circle without trotting, and she progressed from there rapidly. When I left, she was doing groundpoles at the walk and trot, circles, figure 8's, and serpentines also at a trot, circles at the canter, and I was working on refining her bending and self-carriage. She is great in lessons and I'm very proud of her. The staff that is involved with the barn all noticed a huge difference in her -she is more calm, relaxed, slow, and safe. All she needs is a consistant work schedule, someone who is confident enough for both them and her, and someone to please and trust. She tries her heart out and is a wonderful pony.
