Chance's very own page

Hi I'm Chance. Pam chose my name because she saw Homeward Bound five days before she saw me at the MSPCA! She says I've lived up to my name too (so what if I like to chew up everything in sight?) I have many nicknames; I've been called Squishy because of my face and I could stand to loose a few pounds, puppy, and Cookie Monster because I love treats and the word "cookie" always get my attention! When I was little they called me Simba and Silly. What next? Actually, right now they just call me Chance and Chancey, sometimes they say "the dog" but I know they mean me! I turned 6 on Nov 28th, Pam says I'm a senior!

I'm an Airdale/Yellow Lab cross. My family adopted me from the local MSPCA. My siblings and I had colds, but the MSPCA people cured me before I went home with them. We were the lucky litter, the other two litters there had PARVO. *If any of you are considering getting a dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit, or horse please check out your local animal shelter or rescue program first! The animals are usually very loving and friendly, you have the joy of saving their lives, they come with shots, and mixes are less prone to genetic things like hip displasia. For those of you in MA, the MSPCA in Methuen (Nevins Farm & Equine Center) has horses and farm animals. Some of them are there just because their owners don't have time for them, and they're wonderful horses.* Well I'm getting off topic.

halloween96chance.jpg ~~ Behold! I am Chance the alien/lion! BTW-the people there are Pam(witch), Andrea (Sister being unHalloweeny), and Mike (Pam's friend) This is Halloween '96.

On to the interesting stuff. I like horses (as long as they don't try to kick me -ahem... Hard Rock Miss!!), but they don't always like me. A few years ago I licked Legend's nose and he stayed far away from my face after that. Horses can be so snobby. Pam said he is a dog in his stall, I don't understand why-he's still a TB. I found a great way to have fun at the barn, cause a stampede! You see I wanted to go sniff Penni Candi (back in 95 or 96), but the leash wouldn't reach, she was sticking her face through the fence, so I barked at her. She spooked and scared the horses in the ring.

I love the Mass. Hospital School barn! There's so much to sniff! Bunnies sure do smell interesting, I'm not fond of Lovie's stall, but Jay's is pretty cool. The coolest thing ever is drinking out of 20-quart horse buckets! Mr. Blue doesn't know what to do with me, I licked him too. Misty doesn't act like she cares, but she stares at me through the fence. They put me in the paddock with the goats. Hahahahaha!!!!! I ran around so much I couldn't believe it! Wow, I guess I can herd, kept those goats all together and got that stray. Jumping over that log a billion times is cool too. Gees those goats need to lighten up! Oh and the nature trail is neat too.

I got to go with Pam and Mom to MHS again! Pam lead Misty on the nature trail and in the field and mom took me! The let me off the leash and I ran to Pam and Misty and back to Mom and around in circles. I love running!

xmas96chance.jpg ~~I have magic powers! (Christmas '96)

What do I do all day? One of my favorite things to do is bark at the top of my lungs at invisible creatures when I'm outside. Boy am I lucky the neighbors like me ! :^) I love agility! I used to jump somewhere around 3' (why am I thinking 4? That's a bit high, well I think I have done 4' once) and really wide-I never measured. Now I just jump things around the height of my shoulder because Pam thinks it's easier on my legs/joints. I like ramps too, but they can be scary sometimes. I think every dog should have a Kong toy (they make 'em for birds and cats too). Pam bought me an Ultra King Kong (For Power Chewers) with some of her Christmas money. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't destroy it. We used it for tug-o-war, and I chewed it, chased it, and ate Peanut butter and treats out of it. Once I figured out how to chew the bigger opening it was all over. There's nothing left of it!!! Mwahahaha.... nothing can escape the jaws of Chance!! I take a lot of cat naps, uh...I mean.... naps..., during the day. During the summer I love to go swimming! I just wish they'd let go off my leash more. I live for car rides and walks.

Pam worked on my reaction time by throwing tennis balls to me over and over and I can shoot a basketball like Air Bud! Well I can't quite get it in a 10 foot hoop -ok ok, I haven't even tried to make a basket, but I can shoot it! (Don't tell Pam, but in a couple months I intend to hold a basketball shooting contest with Air Bud. Then you can see me in the movies!) (Pam note- keep dreaming Chance).

When my family goes somewhere and can't take me, I am boarded at Great Scott Kennels. I don't think they have a website, but they're really nice. Pam worked there for a few days too. My very favorite vet is Dr. Best and his assistants at the Foxboro Animal Hospital.
