When I create a
new source citation, I also create an unrelated, "surrogate" person who
carries the initial citation. Usually, this is the name of the author.
I then make a descendant tree report, which shows only this one surrogate
individual, and export the contents of that tree to a GEDCOM file. This
carries with it only the source(s) actually cited for it.
To use the source for the first time in another file, append/merge the
appropriate GEDCOM. You will be presented with a dialog listing the individuals
in the GEDCOM on the left (containing only the surrogate), where you can
include them or not. Simply click OK, including no individuals.
The source will be included, however.
These GEDCOM "source" files are relatively small and easy to update,
using NotePad. I keep them all in a separate sub-folder of my main FTM
working folder. |
