Family Tree Maker (TM) FAQ 010
A person in my file is missing from the Index of Individuals page.

These problems are almost always due to a difference of opinion between the user and the program as to exactly what is the surname of the individual. For example, John Dos Passos will be indexed under "Dos Passos, John" instead of "Passos, John Dos".

There are a couple of ways to discover how FTM treats the name:

  1. Select the name on the Family Page, and hit F2. This will take you to the Index page, positioned at the selected individual. You can usually tell from the placement among the other names how it has been indexed.
  2. Format any sort of tree, or ODT, and include name, but formatted as LAST, First Middle. This will unequivocally tell you what the surname is.
