But for Donald Rumsfeld, yes that Donald Rumsfeld, this poisonous and unpleasant substance would never have reached the market. The scientists at Searl, the company, which produces and markets Aspartame had performed tests on Monkeys. I have heard that on one test they fed Aspartame to 7 monkeys. I understand that, of the 7 monkeys, 1 or 2 died and 4 or 5 had grand mal seizures. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested Aspartame and found it unsafe, as did the Centre for Disease Control (CDC). Both of these institutions pronounced Aspartame unsafe. The matter might have rested there, but Donald Rumsfeld decided to get involved. Never one to be concened with such tedious matters as truth, justice, genocide, torture and the rights of normal decent human beings, Donald Rumsfeld decided he was going to ensure that this product went to market. He succeeded too, using political pressure, friends in high places and vast sums of money, Donald Rumsfeld ensured that people the world over would be sure to take this extremely poisonous, extremely dangerous, substance.

Bedford, Thursday 11th June 2009
Dear Mr. Brown
I don't like your Government. I am going to tell you why. I hate this slavish devotion to Milton Freidman's Free Market Economics. The very words "Free Market Economics" are a lie. There is nothing free or fair about "Free Market Economics". But don't take my word for it. Read Naomi Klein's book, The Shock Doctrine. Watch these YouTube videos in which she talks about her amazing book:
Naomi Klein talks about Disaster Capitalism
Naomi Klein is interviewed about The Shock Doctrine
Naomi Klein Presents The Shock Doctrine to the CCPA
It is all about presentation with you, isn't it? There is nothing of any substance. At least nothing that works. I was utterly disgusted by your ridiculous performance the other day, when you feigned concern about Susan Boyle on National Television. What blatant hypocrisy! What Bullshit! Do you think we were born yesterday Sir? I don't know how you think you came across. I will tell you. You looked like a slimy toad, a blatant sleaze ball. So you want to listen and be concerned do you? Try listening to some of your Ministers. Caroline Flint was on Woman's hour this morning. She had some very interesting things to say about your ability to listen. Apparently you do not even think it is necessary to invite the minister responsible for Europe to cabinet discussions on Europe. Is this the way you normally do business? What sort of a planet are you on Sir?
"But these are not policy issues!" I hear you say. Very well then, let's talk about some policy issues. How is it, precisely, you consider it a good idea to piss away public money into private hands? I am talking about privatisation. I am talking about PFI initiatives.
You say that you have invested huge sums of money in the NHS and in education. No, you haven't. You have given huge sums of public money to private companies, who have claimed to be working for education and the NHS, while in reality they were much more interested in raking in huge profits for themselves and their shareholders.
You are supposed to be the leader of a Labour Government. You are supposed to be concerned for the working man. You are not very effective in that role, are you Sir? I would go as far as to say, you are a complete abortion; a complete waste of space! The first thing you and Tony Blair did when each of you got into Downing Street, was to invite Margaret Thatcher to tea. Margaret Thatcher is the enemy of the working man. Unless you are a complete and utter moron, in which case Jilted John was extremely prescient, when he sang the chorus to his one hit wonder back in 1978, you must surely know that.
The efforts of New Labour, from 1997 to the current date, have been completely abysmal. I feel like a school teacher. I want to be able to tell you: "This work is total rubbish boy. Tear it up, go back and do it again!"
For God's sake man get your act together! What is the matter with you?
Yours sincerely
Richard Gillard

I aim to use this page as a window on the politics of the late 20th and early 21st century. This will inevitably be a small window, at first. However, I intend to widen that window over time.
