An article on the launch of the  DNA Project appears in Newsletter 5.

Latest Update

You will be pleased to know that the first few participants in the Y-DNA Project have had the results of their analysis.  Even from a few results it is clear that the work can:

a) show with absolute certainty a particular common Hagger male blood line;
b) indicate a very high probability of a blood connection, even though this has yet to be proved from available written records;
c) give a strong indication of the distant origin of the line – the so-called Haplogroup.

The relationships confirmed or indicated under a) or b) will be particular to each male Hagger, but c) is a fascination for all of us.  The prediction from these initial findings is of a Haplogroup J2.  We have had one result indicating a Haplogroup of R1b, this participant is almost certainly not connected to the other 6.

Haplogroup J2 is widely believed to be associated with the spread of agriculture from Anatolia, and is found in much of the Eastern Mediterranean, but rarer in NW Europe.  It would be highly worthwhile to gain further confirmation of this via other male Haggers.

If you have already signed up to the project, then we await your results with interest.  If you are still thinking about it, or this is the first time you have been made aware of it, then now is the time to participate and help us gain more evidence of our common origins.

If you need the exact details please contact:  peter@hagger.org
