7th-11th July 1997 French Work Experience
(8.30-12.00,1.30-5.30)
I worked as an administrative assistant in the Languages department of 'AFIDA' an education college in Saint Quentin (Rotherham's twin town).
I worked with the departmental secretary and dealt mainly with the teaching staff, carrying out general office management, filing and organisational work. I prepared some material on computer (in French) and used large-scale photocopying equipment as part of the job. Communication was mainly in French, but also in Spanish.
19th June - 7th July 1995 Trident Work Experience
(8.30am-5.30pm)
I worked as a Depot Traffic Clerk at the Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd. (Rawmarsh).
Responsibilities included organizing the drivers' daily duties, preparing their timetables and listing attendance. I also handled some weekly accounting and completed fuel/mileage computer files. Communicating with drivers and the garage staff was an important part of the job, as well as dealing with enquiries from the general public.

Extra-curricular
As well as my basic work experience, I have also had experience of working in various small concerns whilst in school, including a junior school school bank and bookshop, and later I helped with the daily running of the Stationery Shop at Wath Comprehensive (until the end of the Upper Sixth (1998)).
Since leaving for Manchester, I have endeavoured to keep active both in and outside University. Particularly important to me are The TAS (Targetted Access) and Virtual Mentoring Schemes whose principal aim is to inform and encourage young people from non-traditional backgrounds to consider higher education as a realistic option. Participation in these projects has involved giving group presentations in the schools, assisting teachers in the classroom, and also acting as a guide on 'visit days' to the university, or 'HE Awareness Days'(HEAD), as they are also known.
Interests
I have a wide range of general interests. I enjoy reading, walking and many sports, though I cannot claim to be more than a recreational sportsman. I have a strong interest in current world affairs and in modern scientific and technological developments. On a less formal level, I am also involved in local and family history.
