BRINSLEY VILLAGE

Since the mines closed and the M1 was built, Brinsley has become a commuter village. During the recession the light industries have closed except for a printing firm in the old Methodist chapel. Agriculture is still a major feature of the parish which includes eight farms and an abattoir The village has two general stores, two post offices, two hairdressers, two newsagents, a garage and butchery and fish vans which serve the village. There are also six public houses and a nursing home.

The housing estates in Brinsley were built some years ago, and apart from 12 infill plots there are no plans for further building in the foreseeable future. This means that Brinsley has an ageing population with little opportunity for young people to settle in the village.

Brinsley Primary School has approximately 210 pupils and a 40 place nursery The previous incumbent (Rev David Harper) took a weekly assembly at school and was a school governor. The school uses the church building for seasonal services led by staff and children such as carol and Christingle services and special religious productions.
