John Rutherford was the son of Peter and Martha/Mary (Henderson) Rutherford. He married Sophia Ann Miller on Feb 7, 1866 Rev Thomas Cleghorn Wesleyan Methodist. Witness was William Cain of Owen Sound.
John set the stage for John A. Richardson, Alfred Bond and Harry Wright in 1907 to initiate "Richardson Bond and Wright" He was a member of the Press. He was the County Clerk of Grey from 1889-1915 in Owen Sound.

John Rutherford came to Owen Sound August 1851. In Owen Sound he learned his trade as foundryman or moulder and employed in Kennedys and Corbetts foundry. John Rutherford had a partial stroke of paralysis two years before he died.
