Family History: The Clancy family originally settled on the south side of Caplin Bay, however it appears that in the 1860s one branch of the family, probably Michael, moved to the north side of the bay. His sons ??, James, Thomas and Patrick later bought additional property on the north side from Kyran Condon's widow, after he was lost at sea. However, the land description in the deed doesn't match the property which the Clancy's used in later years. We can only surmise that there may have been a land swap with Thomas Condon who owned all of the adjacent property to the east of the Clancys. There is no clear indication of how Walter, John and Michael Clancy were related to one another. One of them had a son who moved to the U.S.A. and lived in the Chicago area, but nothing else is known of any other family members at this time.
Present Status: This surname became extinct at Calvert in 1985. Tom Clancy and his brother Mike, sons of James, never married, however there are many descendants of their sisters still living at Calvert, throughout Newfoundland and other parts of Canada, and the U.S.A.
Local Place Names: Clancy's Gullies.
