Korsakoff Syndrome

• Alcoholic peripheral neuropathy (due to thiamine deficiency)
• chronic, as opposed to acute seen in Wernicke's Encephalopathy

Diagnostic exam shows the following clinical signs:

• normal cranial nerve function
• truncal ataxia
• painful sensory loss in feet
• absent stretch reflexes at the ankles

Treatment

• Thiamine IV in the ER
