Till Death Do Us Part - Chapter 21: The One I Gave My Heart To

How could the one I gave my heart to,
Break my heart so bad?
How could the one that made me happy,
Make me feel so sad?
Won't somebody tell me
So I can understand
If you love me
How could you hurt this heart of mine?
Tell me...yeah
How could you be so cold to me?
When I gave you everything
All my love, all I had inside
How could you just walk out the door?
How could you not love me anymore?
I thought we had forever
I can't understand
How could the one I shared my dreams with,
Take my dream from me?
How could that love that brought so much pleasure,
Bring such misery?

Carly stared glumly at nothing paticular. She was waitressing at Kelly's with
Elizabeth, and the place was mostly empty. Most probably due to the
weather Carly thought sullenly, and looked out the windows. It was dark and
gray, with the promise of rain any moment, and as it was it kept drizzling on
and off. A couple of people were scattered inside the resteraunt, nothing
major. Giving Carly plenty of time to think.

Think. God, how she loathed the word. She tried to think of the material that
would be on her upcoming test, but she couldn't. It was too difficult. Her
thoughts kept wandering to men. Three men in particular, Michael, Jason and
Ken. Ken. Damn him, what was he doing there? Michael, Jason, they were
understandable. They were her husband and son. But what was Ken?

A bitter smile crossed her lips. That seemed to be the question of the day.
Yes, it had been one day since her encounter with Ken and she couldn't get
him off her mind. What was he? He was very charming, he seemed to be
intelligent, he must have money, very confident and extremly handsome. Not
Jason, rugged handsome, but just stepped off the cover of Vogue handsome.
And well toned. Yes, he definetly had a lifetime membership with Baileys.

Ahh! Bad thoughts! Bad thoughts!! Must concentrate. She was not looking
for conflict. Her whole life had always been based on conflict, and she didn't
want that anymore. She had school which was preparing her for a job she
loved, a job which made her feel independent, a family which she was just
beggining to get aquainted with, a son whom she loved a husband which she
loved but avoided and did not sleep with. Anymore.

See? No conflict. No issues, just smoothe sailing! She was brought back
from he daydreams by Elizabeth. ''Carly? There's a customer outside,
he's....''

''Outside?!?'' Carly interuppted incrediously. ''Jesus! He picked one hell of a
day to dine 'Al fresco!''

''Yeah, well, he's asking for you.'' Elizbeth said with a puzzled look.

''Me?'' Carly asked laughing ''He asked for me sepecifically?''

''Well, no.'' a slight smile broke out on Liz's face as she struggled not to
laugh. ''He said that he wanted to be waited on by the stunning, married
blond who likes her coffee light!''

Carly's eyes widened. ''No , he didn't!!'' She craned her neck to see out the
windows and eventually made out his blurred figure. ''Ken! How'd he figure
out I work her??''

''So, I take it you know him?''

Carly's smile withered away as a guilty expression came across her face. She
tried to play it off casually. ''Well, sorta. He's in one of my classes.'' She
laughed and said. ''He likes to fool around, I'll go see what he wants.''

Carly fussed with her hair took one glance in the mirror and then went
outside.

Ken was sitting in a chair leaning back casually with his legs sitting on a chair
opposite, his ankels crossed. He looked great with his hair all wet and spikey
wearing a black ski jacket and tight blue jeans. He smiled lazily at her as she
approached and said. ''I've heared of singing in the rain, but eating?''

''What are you talking about?? It's a beautiful day!'' Ken said with a grin

''Beautiful? It rainy and gray.''

''Well, that's why I came to see you. So you could brighten up my day!'' Ken
said with a grin

''Cute'' Carly replied with a smile. ''What can I get you?''

''Well, for staters you can sit down.''

''Ken, I'm working!'' Carly gestured to her apron.

''So, take a break.''

''Ken, I can't.'' She looked thoughtful for a moment snd added. ''Besides,
who said I wanted to? And how did you know I worked here?''

Ken's smile deepened, making his dimples flair. ''Like I said, nothing gets
between me and a bright, beautiful woman.''

''A bright, beautiful, MARRIED woman.'' Carly corected him

Ken grinned and studied her face for a moment, untill something behind her
caught his eye. ''Hey shortcake, c'mere for a moment.''

Carly turned to watch a suspicous Liz approach them and laughed. Ken
smiled and continued. ''This beautiful married creature over here'' he said as
he gestured towards a grinning Carly with his head'' wants to have a
conversation with me, but her responsibilities are nagging at her conscience.
So, I thought maybe you could be a good friend & cover for her.''

Liz looked at him for a moment and then turned her attention towards Carly.
''Carly?''

Carly kept looking at Ken ''You mind?'' she asked Liz.

''No, of course not.'' With one last puzzled look Liz was gone.

Carly burst out laughing and sat down as Ken graciously removed his feet.
''You're something else you know that?''

Ken leaned foward. ''I'm that something that you need.''

Carly's laughing halted as she addressed him seriously. With a smack of the
lips she asked. ''What do you want Ken?''

''You, baby. Just you.''

Carly held up her left hand and pointed at her rings. ''Listen sweetheart, I'm
married. Want me to spell it out for you? UNAVAILABLE!'' she said
pronouncing each syllable curtly. ''In other words, I'm not free to be
wanted.''

''So you admit it!'' Ken said brightly.

''Admit what?''

''That you're trapped. A prisoner, looking for an escape.'' Ken leaned back
and crossed his arms over his shoulders. ''Well, look no more honey, your
escape is here.''

Carly leaned foward and said in a low hiss. ''Listen, honey, I'm not looking
for nothing my husband can't provide.''

''Yes you are.'' Ken said confidently.

''Really?'' Carly asked, her eyes widening in mock curiosity.

''Yeah, really.'' Ken said with a grin.

''Care to fill me in?''

''I don't know.'' Ken said slowly as he studied her. ''Some love, attention,
affection, the feeling of being someone's numero uno priority.'' Ken watched
as Carly's eyes narroweed in hurt and anger and realized he hit a sore spot.
This brought a smile to his lips as he said. ''Tell me if any of this rings a bell.''

''What the hell do you know about it?'' Carly asked, her nostrils flaring.

''I know you. I know where your going. I've seen it a million times. Bright,
vibrant, beautiful girl gets married too unappreciative, unloving male.'' Ken
leaned foward. ''Know what happens to you? You wither. You wither 'till all
that's left is a body.'' he paused and added. ''And a baby.'' He watched her
eyes grow wide and continued ''I know your story cupcake. I can read. It's
been plastered all over the newspapers. You think anyone believes Mr.
mafia king married you for you? No, it was for the kid. You deserve better.''

''Exuse me, Mr. Had one cup of coffee with you and know your life story,''
Carly retorted. ''But what the hell kind of game are you playing and what do
you want?''

'' I already told you.'' Ken said calmly, relaxing again. ''You. I like you Carly.
I could easily fall in love with you, if you let me. I want you to be happy.
When was the last time you were happy? Genuinely happy? I mean walking
on air, nothing can bother me, feels so.....''

''OK! OK! I get the picture, HAPPY!'' Carly yelled back, frustrated with
how on the mark he was.

''Well?'' Ken asked.

Carly lowered her head, pretending to be inspecting her nails. She wouldn't
let this pratical stranger get to her. She wouldn't think how it seemed that he
could read her soul. She wouldn't let it matter that he genuinely seemed to
care, about her. Not her kid or sex or whatever, but her. No, she wouldn't
let him get that close.

Ken reached across the table and caught her chin in a firm grasp, forcing her
head up and her eyes to his. He saw the tears that filled her soft brown eyes
and inwardly smiled he had her just where he wanted her. ''When?'' he
pressed

''Never.'' Carly whispered, her eyes downcast and then brought them up to
his and screamed. ''Never! Ok? NEVER!! I don't get to be happy? Got it?
It 'aint my role in life! I've gotten over it, so why don't you do the same and
stay the hell away from me?''

With that she jumped up and began to storm away, but Ken grabbed her
arm from behind and turned her toward him. ''Don't be angry. That's not
what I wanted. I just wanted you to honestly evaluate the situation and
realize you could never be happy with him, and give me a try.'' He smiled
and brushed away her tears. ''I want you to be happy, Caroline. I want to
make you happy.''

Carly rolled her eyes and looked away, but Ken once again grabbed her
chin and comanded her attention. ''I'll give you anything you want, clothing, a
boat, a yaht, a car whatever. You want to escape? Name the place. Rome,
Paris, London, South America.'' He looked at her and remembered what
Moreno's sources had told him, and went for the kill. ''Love? You want
love? God, I've had but two conversations with you and already you
dominate my thoughts. I could never stop loving you. Attention? You're the
only thing that matters. Forget that Morgan jerk, and look at me.''

Carly's eyes began to overflow as she hoarsley whispered, ''I Love him so
much, Ken. He's so wonderful. I'd do anything for him, anything. Why can't
he just love me? I'd do anything for him. Anything. All he has to do is ask.''

Ken took her into his arms and smiled over his head, she was his. ''Shhh,
there there. Honey, shhhh.''

His breath tingled her ear, and his arms felt like a secure fortress around her.
There was a tiny voice inside of her telling her that something was off about
this, but the needy part of her was too demanding, and she couldn't resist
him. She couldn't. Not after weeks of resisting Jason.

''You're too good for him baby, too good.'' He pulled away from her and
looked her in the eyes. ''I could make you happy, I could put the twinkle
back in your eyes. Just say the word.''

Carly looked away, doubtfully. ''I don't know, I hsve a son.....''

''Just think about it.'' Ken reached into his pocket and produced a business
card. He handed it to Carly. ''It's the hotel I'm staying at. It has the room
number and phone number. Call or come by to talk or to feel good.'' With
his hand tracing her neck, Carly completly understood the meaning of his
words.

Ken leaned down and kissed her neck, right below her ear before
whispering. ''I could love you like no other. We could be magic.''

Then he brought his hands to to either side of her face and pulled her in for a
kiss. At first she resisted, but he wouldn't let her. After a moment he pushed
her lips open with his tongue, his hands reaching behind her, pulling her
closer by her buttocks. After a few moments he pulled away and gently
caressed her face untill she finally opened her eyes. With one last smile, he
was gone. Carly watched him leave and looked down at the card in her
hands. At that moment, it started to pour.

Won't somebody tell me
Somebody tell me please
If you love me,
How could you do that to me?
Tell me

How could you just walk out the door?
How could you not love me anymore?
I thought we had forever
I can't understand
No I can't understan

Carly pushed the Penthouse door open and stepped inside. She gave a tired
nod towads Johnnie who shut the door behind her. Carly looked around the
empty Penthouse and sighed. Michael was with AJ and Jason was out. Out.
Out because there was no reason to be there if Michael wasn't.

Carly went to Jason desk and put her bag down, and sat in his chair, pulling
her hair clips out of her damp hair. Ken had gotten to her today. She couldn't
deny it. Basically he had voiced all her inner fears. Said them out loud,
confirmed them. She was so tempted to go see him. To alow him to love her
and take care of her. To be her escape, to take her to all the magical places
he mentioned, but what about Michael? What about Jason?

Ha! As he long as he has Michael he'll be fine. Ugh! She sliently massaged
her temples, her head was pounding from all of todays unhappy thoughts.
She loved Jason, but he didn't love her. Wasn't she entitled to love?
Unconditional love? And when was the last time she had been put first?
When would people see that she was more than Michael's mother?

Her thoughts were interrupted by Johnnie's knock. Carly stifled a groan and
reluctuntly pulled herself from the chair. She walked over to the door and
pulled it open. ''What can I do for you....'' She started in an annoyed voice
but broke off when she saw who it was. Carly let out a sardonic laugh and
said. ''My, my. If it isn't the Poster girl for Perfection. What brings Ms. High
and Mighty Scorpio to my humble abode?''

''Hello Carly.'' Robin replied icily. ''May I come in?''

''Jason's not here, Robin.'' Carly responded quickly and then smiled sweetly
''However if you want to wait in MY home for MY husband, you'r welcome
too.''

Robin returned the fake smile and said. ''How nice of you Carly.'' She
stepped inside and waited for Johnny to shut the door behind her before she
continued. ''However since you're being nice, I must wonder what you're up
to.''

Carly laughed and replied. ''I'm not up to anything sugar. I just figured I'd let
you get one more look of the life you wanted, but I have.'' Robin rolled her
eyes and Carly took a step closer and said in a low hiss. ''That's right honey,
take one great last look. The house you wanted, the husband you wanted,
the son you wanted, the life you wanted! Take one good look, just don't
forget, you're a visitor here. This is MY home, my husband, my son, my
LIFE! And don't forget those guards outside they protect me, not you,
because I am Jason's wife.'' She leaned against the desk and smugly crossed
her arms over her chest and added. '''Till Death Do We Part.''

Robin smiled and said. ''How delusional can you get, Carly? The minute
Michael turns 18, Jason's going to divorce you! You are nothing more than
the liying, manipulative bitch who is Michael's mother, nothing more. Your
marriage to Jason is the biggest fraud of the century! ''

Carly felt like crying. It's like everything she had just been thinking Robin was
saying, but she wouldn't cry. Not in front of her. Instead she turned her
sadness to anger ''Really honey? You sure about that? Because our marriage
sure felt real last night. Or at least our lust did.'' Robin turned away and Carly
continued. ''MMMM, that's right baby! Me and Jason were at it all night
long, but that's not unusual, for us anyway. But, you were with Jason for a
little bit, so you must have some idea how passionate he can be.'' Carly
looked away as if remembering the moment and licked her lips for effect.
''Oh, yes. Than man can be an animal. I do believe I'm still sore! Mmm,
that's right. Up against the wall, in the shower, on the kitchen counter, on the
dining room table right over there,'' Carly said nudging her head towards the
table. ''Oh, and this desk!'' Carly turned toward the desk and seductivley ran
her hands over it. ''MMMMMM, yes this might just be our favorite spot of
all. It's where I distract him from his work, we tend to get very naughty!'' She
turned back to Robin who had tears in her eyes. ''So yes preacher girl, Jason
and my marriage is as real as this diamond on my pretty little finger.'' Carly
said waving her wedding rings in Robin's face. ''So, if that's all, maybe you
can leave. I've been having erotic fantasies of Jason all day and I can't wait
to make them a reality!''

Just as Robin opened her mouth to say something a male voice from behind
said. ''What the hell is going on here?''

Carly and Robin turned to see Jason. Carly remembered their little 'act in
love in front of others' rule and finaly decided she would for once in her life
enjoy playing by the rules. She smiled and ran up to Jason kissing him
passionatly on the lips. ''Jason, honey, we have a visitor. Miss. Pre-teen
skipper here, decided to come and congratulate us on our marriage. Isn't that
thoughtful? I was just telling her how we had plans for tonight, so going out
to prance in her meadows of roses and good intentions is definetly out of the
question. Right baby?'' Carly purred running her hands over his chest.

Jason looked at her with an annoyed expression and turned his attention to
Robin. ''Robin, what are you doing here?''

''Watching Carly make a fool of herself.'' Robin said with a smile. Carly
made a pissed off face and crossed her arms, raising her eyebrows, as Robin
continued ''I heard about your marriage. Jason, you never should have done
that.'' Robin said with a frown. Carly let out a short laugh and turned away,
heading towards the bar.

Robin kept her eyes trained on Jason. ''I told AJ to free you from her
manipulative ways. Not get you more tangled. Jason you have to move on.
Divorce Carly and accept the fact that Michael isn't your son.''

''Who the hell do you think you are?'' Carly asked ''You float in here on
God's holy light, assuming you know everything thee is to know about me
and Jason! Well sorry to break your golden heart Princess, but Jason
LOVES me, and we're together forever.'' Carly said as she put Jason's left
hand with hers and raised their wedding fingers in front of Robin. Jason
pulled his hand away and Robin laughed.

''Poor little Carly. Still think an expensive piece of jewlery means love? Ha!''
She turned to Jason. '' So, come on Jason, tell me. Did you marry Carly for
love or Michael?''

Carly smiled smugly, confident that Jason wouldn't risk losing Michael. He
wouldn't break the golen rule of their relationship, but the next words out of
Jason's mouth broke Carly's heart.

''Don't blame me Robin, you started this, remember? You told AJ the truth.''

Robin's smile grew. ''So you admit it. You admit Carly's liying and you two
are just married out of convienience.''

''Yeah, I admit it.'' Jason sounded tired, but Carly was on fire. She shoved
Jason with all her might and started screaming.

''I HATE you! I HATE you!! You jerk! You SCUM!!! I hate you!! Don't
you get it? She tried to take michael from us! She tried to destroy us! We
had to come up with a plan to keep Michael, Jase, and know one look at her
and it's all over. WHY? Because you don't want to hurt her feelings? Well
that's funny Jasey boy, really funny, considering she didn't give a DAMN
about your feelings when she told AJ'' Carly felt the tears forming in her eyes.
Damn him, he was picking Robin over her, AGAIN! ''Screw you both!''

With that she ran out of the Penthouse. Jason signaled for Johnny to follow,
then he turned back to Robin who was smiling. ''What a pathetic.....''

''Shut up Robin!'' Jason screamed. ''Just Shut Up!!''

''Jason, how could you say such a thing, I just..''

''You just WHAT, Robin? Jason yelled. ''Came to destroy everything again?
You know, you say you want me to be happy, but everytime I try to be, you
screw it up. Robin, we are over. Whatever we had is over, it has been for a
long time, get over it! I'm married to Carly!''

''But, you just said...'' Robin began as tears began to trail down her cheeks.

''Yeah, yeah, yeah..'' Jason said with a dissmisive wave. ''I said I married her
for Michael, which is true. But that doesn't mean I don't care for her. She's
loyal and would never turn her back on me. What we had is over Robin, but
what me and Carly have is just beginiing. I'm going to ask her to be my wife,
Robin.'' Startling even himself as he said it, but he just went with it. ''I'm going
to ask her to really be my wife, not just pretend. 'Till Death Do We Part.''
Memories of their night at Jakes came flooding back to him as he
remembered Carly begging him to love her, and a smile crossed his lips. ''I'm
going to love her, Robin. Leave Robin, and don't come back.''

With that a sobbing Robin ran out of the room. Jason took a minute to digest
everything he had just said. He had been toying with the idea of making their
marriage real ever since their kiss in Puerto Rico, but know he was sure.
With a smle on his face, Jason went after Carly.

How could the one I gave my heart to,
Break my heart so bad?
How could the one who made me happy,
Make me feel so sad?

Won't somebody tell me
So I can understand
If you love me,
How could you hurt me like that?

Carly sat in the back of a cab sobbing. How could he? After everything, how
could he go back to her? Once again, he put her first. Not only before
herself, but her son, their son! Carly was too upset to realize that Johnny was
following the cab.

The cab stopped, and Carly handed the driver all the money she had in her
pocket and hopped out. She looked up, shielding her eyes from the hard,
pelting rain that was storming down. She immedietly spotted Ken's room in
the motel and ran toward it. When she reached it she began to pound on the
door. She didn't know why she had gone there. Maybe it was because she
didn't know where else to go, or maybe she just wanted to be loved, and
was willing to take Ken back up on his offer. His offer for unconditional love.
''KEN!!!!!! Ken, it's Carly. Open up, PLEASE!! Ken, PLEASE!!!''

The door flung open and there stood Ken wearing the same tight, dark, blue
jeans and an un-buttoned navy blue button down men's shirt. Carly flung
herself in his arms and sobbed as Ken shut the door and led her inside. He
rubbed her back. She was soaked through her clothing and trembling.
''Carly, you're freezing.''

He led her to the bed and cautiously sat her down. He went to his closet and
retrieved a quilt. He came back and draped it around her shoulders. Carly
pulled it around as Ken kneeled in front of her, pushing wet hair from her
face. ''Carly? Carly, what is it? Is it your husband? Did he hurt you?''

Carly shook her head and finally got out. ''No.....Yes.....UGH! I don't know.
He, h-he didn't hit me, but.....'' She looked up into his eyes and cried out.
''He chose her!! He chose her over me, AGAIN! Why? How, Oh God, I
hate him! I hate him so much, I hate him because I love him! 'God, I LOVE
him!!!''

Ken accepted her into his arms and digest everything she had said. Her?
Who did Morgan pick? Whatever. It didn't matter. He had Mrs. Jason
Morgan right where he wanted her, and his uncle was going to love it. It was
time to move in for the kill. He pulled away and cupped her face, looking
deeply into her eyes. ''I would never, ever chose anyone over you Caroline,
never.''

Carly looked at him hopefully and whispered. ''Never?''

Ken smiled. ''Never, Caroline, let me love you.''

He didn't wait for an answer as he brought his lips to hers. Not disconnecting
he slowly brought her down to the bed. Above her, still kissing, he began to
unbutton her shirt. Carly brought her hands to his, to try and stop him, but
Ken just deepened the kiss and brushed her hands away. When her shirt fell
open he unhooked her bra and pulled away.

Carly swallowed nervousley as he studied her. Regret and guilt beginning to
take over, but before she can say anything, Ken put his hands on her.
''You're beautiful.''

It was at that moment that the door burst open and Jason appeared in the
doorway.

How could the one I gave my world to,
Throw my world away?
How could the one who said I love you,
Say the things you say?
How could the one I was so true to,
Just tell me lies?
How could the one I gave my heart to,
Make me feel so sad?
How could the one I gave my heart to,
Break my heart so bad?
Tell me..
Ooo...
Tell me
