January 2006 UPDATE - Personally from SIMON MOORE via the T10K Connection Newsletter

    Greetings From The Forest...

Hi everybody, and a very, very happy New year. I am writing this from a hotel room in New Zealand, where I am currently writing an animation film called Jumbo Jet, about a group of elephants who set up a low budget airline. It is as mad as the idea sounds, but it is lots of fun. I have also sold a big Xmas film to Sony Pictures, which I hope will start shooting this year. It is called The Star, and tells the nativity story from the point of view of the animals. Life is good but very busy. Being in New Zealand, surrounded by the magical landscapes (used as locations in many fantasy films, as you know) I am of course reminded of the 10th Kingdom, and what an amazing time we all had making that series in the spectacular settings in Europe.

I moved this year from London to Los Angeles, and I now live in a big wooden house in the canyons above Beverly Hills, where the deer come to the edge of my garden, and each night packs of coyotes howl for miles around. That also makes me think of a certain Mr Warren Wolfson, and sends my mind back to that strange and wonderful world through the mirrors.

Most of you know that a second series of 10th Kingdom is something I would love to do, but we will all have to wait until the time is right and the opportunity presents itself. I have no more news on the subject, but if it is meant to happen, then one day it will...

In the meantime, however, I thought you might all like to know a little bit more about my plans for series 2. Now this story of course is not written yet, and it may change in many ways when and if I do write it, but I thought I'd give a little teaser of some of my ideas to you, my wonderful and loyal fans.

The second adventure will be called 'House of Wolves' , and take us primarily into the wooded world of Red Riding Hood's Kingdom, where schoolgirls in long, crimson caped uniforms are trained to deliver secret messages throughout the kingdoms, risking their lives to travel through the dark, dangerous forests.

The story begins in New York, some time after our previous adventure finished. Wolf and Virginia have opened their restaurant, which serves only meat of course, and only rare meat at that! Virginia is very pregnant with Wolf's baby, and is getting concerned because she has been pregnant for much, much longer than is usual... Wolf says this is a sure sign that the baby will be a magic baby. When Virginia does finally give birth, it is to a furry baby wolf cub!!! Wolf is thrilled, but Virginia is most certainly not, and doesn't like the strange looks she gets when she wheels a little wolf cub around Manhattan in a pram. She is very upset and says she wants a human baby. Wolf promises to return to the Kingdoms with her and see if there is some magic spell that will turn their baby into human form. Indeed, perhaps someone has bewitched their baby... but who would do a thing like that?!

They travel to Red Riding Hood's Kingdom, where wolves are demonized and forced to live in hidden underground villages deep in the forest. Wolf is shocked to see that girls at the Riding Hood Academy For Young Ladies are taught the most appalling, prejudiced ideas about wolves, and he decides to enroll as a teacher (without telling anyone that he is a Wolf, of course) to put the record straight. As you can imagine, a Wolf at a girls boarding school causes quite a few problems...

So many other things happen in our story, including Wolf discovering that his parents were not burned to death as he believed, but still alive! The story also features the magical, woodland full moon marriage of Wolf and Virginia! Old friends will return... some as small as an Acorn... And there will be many surprises - such as the fact that the new Troll National Anthem sounds very much like a Bee Gees song... Oh and one thing I can certainly promise - there will be magic aplenty! Magic everywhere, in all it's wondrous forms. And there will be romance and hope and danger and adventures to take your breath away! And -

But, alas, that's all I have time for now. I would love to hear what you think of these ideas, and also tell me what you would like to see in a second series. I would be very interested to hear all your thoughts in the next few issues of the Newsletter.

Goodbye for now. Best, magical wishes, and lots of Kissing Town stuff-

    Simon

PS - if any of you have written to me in the last few months and I haven't yet replied, please be patient - my life has been rather crazy moving five thousand miles, and most of my life is still packed up in boxes! Sx~

    ........................

'Book 2' - To be or not to be?

The 10th Kingdom did very poorly in the Nielson ratings in the United States the first time it was aired; therefore NBC (the network it was on) was not interested in a sequel. However, despite the poor ratings, audience response was otherwise overwhelming. Hallmark had more orders for the boxed tape set they were selling during the commercials than they could fill while fan letters poured in about the possibility of a sequel. Because of this, writer Simon Moore still had hope of selling the sequel he originally intended to write and was working on promoting it at the time. Various venues were rumored as being interested in the project, however the only definite progress towards 'T10K-Book 2' was a ten page synopsis Mr. Moore had written to use for his pitch to prospective producers.

Amongst the thousands of fan letters sent to Hallmark, pleas from fans for a sequel also reached the desk of T10K writer Simon Moore. Hallmark replied that they were still considering a sequel due to the high mail volume fan mail they received all asking for one.

Mr. Moore replied that he had been approached to do more episodes at a lower budget and with different actors, which he had refused. He didn't want to make a sequel that was of lower quality than the original.

In March 2004, a team of T10K fans wrote to Simon Moore, asking for an interview. In answer to the question about when a sequel might come out, he replied, "I have commented several times on the sequel. It is possible that I could make a cheaper sequel without going to NBC, but it might also mean not having many of the original actors. I would love to continue the adventures of Wolf and Virginia, but there are a number of obstacles in the way. However, as some of you know, The 10th Kingdom took nearly twelve years to get made, so don't give up on a sequel quite yet!"

Fans today continue with letter-writing campaigns, activly join fan groups, sign petitions and more in hopes to stimulate a sequel and to include the original cast.

  2. What's the sequel possibly going to be about?

Simon Moore has replied to numerous inquiries over the years about a possible sequel and his ideas. Simon wrote the 10th Kingdom Connection Newsletter team saying, "The sequel will be in the form of a mini-series, and I think I am going to call it HOUSE OF WOLVES. It will take place mainly in Red Riding Hood's 2nd kingdom, where Wolves and girls have always been enemies. Now the wolves have been pardoned, but are they to be trusted? It might even feature Wolf and Virginia getting married and of course there is a baby on the way and - oh but that would be giving too much away, too soon ..."

In another letter Moore indicated that his premise had been updated to allow for the aging of the actors - as of summer 2002, the sequel was to begin in New York, with the baby already born.

In March 2004, Simon Moore wrote more about sequel ideas saying, "...it will delve into Wolf's family past and yes, answer all the questions about [him] and what really happened to his parents etc." Those fortunate enough to have seen his subsequently written synopsis, such as actor Scott Cohen (Wolf), say it is primarily about Wolf and his family (as Book I was about Virginia). The synopsis itself has not been made available to the public.

  3. How can I contact the producers to tell them I want to see a sequel made?

    1) You can e-mail RHI Entertainment HERE! *www.rhifilms.com

    2) You can write to RHI Ent. (Hallmark Entertainment) at:

    Robert Halmi, Sr. - CEO
    RHI Entertainment, LLC

We also have a postcard page, which has printable postcards for you to send, if you don't feel up to composing anything yourself. The address is reprinted on that page. If you would like a response, you'll need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope (for overseas mail you will need to use postal reply coupons, not domestic stamps).

  4. Are there any books about The 10th Kingdom?

Yes. The novelization of the script from the series is by Kathryn Wesley. For those who enjoy fan-fiction there is a wealth of archives available on the www. Many fans rushed in to fill the large void of having no sequel of this mgaical epic.

  5. I just found out the tape of The 10th Kingdom I watched was missing a lot of scenes. Where can I find the complete version?

There are several different versions of Tenth Kingdom available including the USA and Canada. There are about 3 different Hallmark versions (2 in the US and one in Canada), The NBC version, the emmy/promotion tapes, and 2 different DVDs.

The Hallmark version that were once bought in stores in the United States, came in a 2 tape SP version and a 1 tape SLP version. If you want the full version AVOID THESE LIKE THE PLAGUE! They both have a number of key scenes CUT...like the Bacon scene, the psychiatrist scene and throwing the singing ring in the water scene. There is also a "three tape" version once sold by a company in Canada. I'm not sure of this version, but I've heard it has some things cut as well but not as bad as the US version. Be careful about this one on Ebay. I've seen some people selling it and saying it's the "three tape version," but it's not the NBC version and has several scenes cut.

NBC Home Video once put out a 3 tape version which had the ENTIRE movie. It was sold via a TV offer and on the internet when the mini-series was aired on NBC but was never sold in stores. NBC stopped selling them. These commonly appear on Ebay. If you buy this version from Ebay make sure they come with the official, blue Tenth Kingdom, NBC logo on them - NOT the Hallmark version logo..(the one with the Hallmark version logo is the three tape version sold in Canada). If you buy these, be happy... but be careful. I have heard several stories of them breaking after numerous viewings!!!!

The Emmy/promotion tapes are the entire movie and can "sometimes" be found on Ebay and usually cost as much as the NBC three tape version... but since they are "condensed" they are probably in SLP mode but I'm not positive.

The final version are the DVDs. There are commonly two different versions of the DVD. A 2 DVD disc version and the 3 DVD disc version. The only difference is that in the 2 DVD version, you have to "flip" one of the DVDs. The 3 DVD disc version is much more nicer though since all 3 discs have the T10K labeling.

Note from an 11th Kingdom group member: I personally have the North American DVD, which is 417 minutes long, and contains the entire feature. The DVD set uses two disks, one is double sided, the other is not. Just make sure that whatever you buy is 417 minutes long and if it is a tape, make sure that you are comfortable with how far the tape is being stretched to accomodate the film.

If you are looking for a copy to rent, Netflix and most video rental stores now carry the full mini-series on DVD. Enjoy!!
