September 1	The news reporters descend upon Margo, bombarding her with questions about her "young lover." Eddie defends her, making matters look worse by slugging one of the sleazy reporters. As Eddie's taken away, he tells Margo how Emily set him up but Emily puts on a show of chastising the WOAK reporter. Tom, then Margo, thank her. Hal tells Margo she's suspended. Alone, Margo tries to apologize to Tom, but he's had it as he leaves to sleep on the couch.
September 2	Margo wants to know if Tom believes her about what happened with Eddie. Tom vents his frustration and disbelief that Margo could let the situation get so out of hand and that she lied to him so many times to cover her involvement with Eddie. Margo leaves to deal with her suspension while Tom throws himself into his work with Emily, who also listens "sympathetically" to his marital problems.

September 8	Margo tries to reach out to Tom but he's in the middle of investigating a story with Emily. In waiting on a rooftop to see if the liquor store is indeed selling to minors, Emily and Tom play a wishing game and dance together. Margo goes to Adam's football game where other parents whisper about her. Adam repudiates her in front of everyone, leaving her sitting alone and devastated on the bleachers.
September 9	All the sexual tension between Emily and Tom finally builds to a kiss. They're interrupted when Tom sees a minor trying to buy liquor and realizes it's Adam. Unable to get through to his angry son himself, Tom is grateful when Emily makes a breakthrough with the teenager by sharing her own problems with alcohol. Barbara finds a forlorn Margo at Adam's school, having been rejected by her son, and tries to commiserate by discussing how she also once fell for a younger man. An offended Margo lashes out at Barbara for insinuating that she cheated on Tom with Eddie. The women spar over their past history with Margo adding that she hopes her father is ready to dump Barbara.

September 14	Margo is surprised when her sister, Katie, arrives in the midst of Margo's marital problems with Tom. Meanwhile, Tom suggests that he and Emily go to Indiana to cover the kidnapping story.
September 15	Margo reels as she realizes she may be pregnant. When Katie mentions that a reporter contacted her regarding the Margo/Eddie scandal, Margo overreacts by asserting that Eddie has nothing to do with this possible pregnancy. Margo calls Tom and asks him to come home, but when he becomes annoyed that she won't tell him why, Margo backs off and wishes him luck on the story. Later, Tom returns to Emily's hotel room as she steps out of the shower. Unable to tear himself away, Tom begins kissing Emily.
September 16	Emily and Tom are about to make love when the phone interrupts them. Snapped out of the passionate moment, Tom rethinks his decision, and races home to Margo. Meanwhile, Margo gets the results of her home pregnancy tests and realizes she is indeed pregnant. Unsure about her feelings, she hides the test from Tom and doesn't tell him the news.
September 17	Margo decides to see Susan and confirms her pregnancy. Lisa confronts Emily and then Tom, who assures his mother that she has nothing to worry about.
September 18	Margo has a touching reunion with her son Adam and, when Katie and Tom enter, it looks as if the Hughes family is on the mend. Meanwhile, Emily discovers Margo's pregnancy and makes plans for Tom to find out in the worst way possible. She intercepts the pamphlets Susan sends Margo, and inserts one from a family planning clinic. Emily also attaches an appointment card to make it look like Margo has scheduled an appointment for an abortion.
September 21	As the Hughes family celebrates Adam's homecoming, Emily delivers the material that will make it seem like Margo's planning to have an abortion. Emily even makes an appointment for Margo at an abortion clinic, requesting that they call back with confirmation as soon as possible. While Margo talks to Katie about her pregnancy, Tom confides his concerns for Margo's health with John and suddenly realizes himself that she may be pregnant. Frustrated, Emily makes sure the pamphlets fall to the floor and is even more hopeful when the phone rings.
September 22	Eddie is stunned when a reporter questions him about Margo's pregnancy. Susan overhears the reporter question Eddie, and knows from the details that Emily's planted the tabloid story. Off Georgia's encouragement, Eddie rushes off to warn Margo. Emily is forced to leave the Hughes' house before the clinic calls back and, finally alone, Tom waits for Margo to tell her about the pregnancy. Eddie interrupts before Margo can share her news with Tom, who is shocked to find the abortion pamphlets.
September 23	Margo tells Eddie she's pregnant with Tom's child and that she's happy about it. Eddie's happy for her, hopes it will make the press back off, and tells her how he's in a far better place because of her and everything she's done for him. Tom walks in to confront Margo and finds her very emotional with Eddie. Alone with Tom, Margo starts to tell him but he says he already knows. She realizes from Tom's interrogation that he might actually believe it's Eddie's. Tom says he doesn't know what to believe considering all the lies she's told, especially in regards to Eddie. Margo insists she wants to raise the baby with it's father, Tom, but Tom asks then why is she getting an abortion. Susan confront Emily and when Emily denies leaking Margo's pregnancy to the press, her mother throws her out of the house.
September 24	Margo denies making an appointment for an abortion but is forced to admit that she worried about this pregnancy because of her marital and family problems and because of her age. It escalates into a huge argument, with both saying things they'll regret. Tom storms out, leaving Margo devastated. Andy realizes that Emily is after Tom and heads over to warn Margo, just as Emily finds Tom at WOAK and invites him home.
September 25	Things heat up back at Emily's between Tom and Emily. Meanwhile, Margo keels over in pain, and Andy rushes her to the hospital where she miscarries her baby. Andy tries to get a hold of Tom but, still full of anger and frustration, he smashes the phone and turns back to Emily. Tom and Emily make love and, afterward, we see Tom's mix of regret and confusion.
September 28	Molly and Brad see Tom leaving Emily's apartment and are suspicious. A guilt-ridden Tom returns home to find that Margo miscarried their child while he was with Emily.
September 29	Tom tries to comfort Margo, determined to forget about his night with Emily. Susan discovers what happened between her daughter and Tom, and Emily is surprised to discover that Molly is privy to the affair as well.
September 30	Tom continues to lovingly tend to Margo, but Emily's appearance stirs everything up. Using her knowledge of Emily and Tom's night together, Molly blackmails Emily for a TV job.
