Tom is calling around town trying to find Margo, who has been out all night. John shows up and says that he's checked the hospitals and there's no sign of her there. Margo breezes through the door and acts like nothings happened, but Tom is upset that she was out all night without calling. Margo insists that she only wanted to be alone, not to punish Tom or to scare him. Tom tells Margo that she's late for her first day as Chief of Detectives and after they fight some more she goes to work. Tom tells John that he wishes he could have just put his arms around Margo and told her how happy he was that she was okay, but that right now Margo would not have let him. At the station, Hal and Margo fight some more about station stuff. Tom shows up at the station to talk to the I/A shrink about Margo and she overhears them. Tom finds out that Margo's promotion came through before the department received the shrink's report. Adam gets sick and Margo leaves the station to go pick him up. With a sleeping Adam in the back seat of her car Margo overhears a police report about a shootout. Without thinking about Adam she heads toward the shootout.

February 5

At the shootout, Adam wakes up after hearing gunshots and worries about his mom. Tom goes to Bob and Kim's house and talks with Kim about Margo's situation. He tells her that Margo would rather chew glass than talk about her feelings about the crash with anyone. Tom tells Kim he's worried that he'd freak out when Margo gets home so he left a note saying to call Bob and Kim's. Kim says that they will wait for Margo's call together. Margo jumps one of the guys that tries to flee the scene of the shootout and when they go to put him in the car Margo realizes that she brought Adam with her. Adam's terrified and worried about his mom so Margo sits in the car comforting him. She finally realizes that something is wrong with her when she notices a bullet hole in the windshield of her car. She takes him down to the station to see her new office to reassure him that she'll be safe at work from now on. Hal is very upset that Margo has Adam at the station, not to mention at the shootout. Margo gets hysterical thinking about what she almost did to Adam. Hal tells Margo that he really thinks she needs help and Margo finally agrees. Tom arrives at the station looking for Margo and is relieved to find her there. Margo tells him that after what happened tonight she realizes that she needs help.
