You can use the Hatchery to easily easily select your Larvae so you can tell them to produce more advanced units.

When you set a rally point, all units that are built at the building will automatically move to the location you chose when they are built.

You can research the Burrow technology at the Hatchery

After you get a Queen's Nest, you can morph your Lair into a Hive

Ventral Sacs allow you to transport units within the Overlord.

Antennae increases the Overlord's sight.

Pneumatised Carapace greatly increases the Overlord's speed.

The Lair is the upgraded stage of the Hatchery. It is given access to more knowledge so you gain more upgrades and buildings. You cannot have a good game without upgrading to one of these eventually.

The Spawn Broodlings upgrade gives the Queen the ability to cast the Spawn Broodlings spell.

The Ensnare upgrade allows the Queen the ability to cast the Ensnare Spell

Gamete Meiosis increases the Queen's maximum energy to 250.

The Queen's Nest gives you the ability to create Queen's. It also is required before you can upgrade to a Hive. So unless you are planning on making nothing but Hydralisks or Mutalisks, you are best off making one of these.

This upgrades the attack power of the Mutalisk, Guardian, and Devourer

Level 1: 100 100

Level 3: 250 250

This upgrades the armor of all air units for the Zerg.

Level 1: 150 150

Level 2: 175 175

Level 3: 300 300

 

The Spire is the building that allows you to make your flying attack units. It takes an annoyingly long time to build but once it is done, you will be able to uleash the wratih of the Zerg Swarms.

The Infested Command Center is gained when a Queen infests a partially damaged Command Center. Then, you can lift them up and fly them to your base, and even land them on the Creep. Infested Terrans are built at an Infested Command Center
