Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom was Walt Disney's original idea. He envisioned a place where parents and children could experience his magic together. And for millions he had achieved this, and continues to, every year at Walt Disney World.

The Seven Lands of The Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is seperated into 7 distinct and interesting lands. They are: Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Mickey's Toontown Fair, and Tomorrowland. Each of these offers incredible rides, and attractions that will delight people of every age.

Rating Guide

To help you decide what rides are the best and what rides are only so-so, I have provided a rating system for each of the rides, based on the opinions of all six people in my family.

Main Street USA

Walt Disney World Railroad

Jump onto a nice, slow moving, train for a great introduction to the design of the park. On your journey you will encounter many beautiful plants, trees, and scenery. One of Walt Disney's passions was trains, and this train is an actual 1928 steam train, slightly modified of course, and brought to Walt Disney World to transport guests around the pakr.

Main Street Cinema

Come into this dark, cool, theatre, and sit awhile as you watch early Mickey Mouse cartoons including the most famous one ever: Steamboat Willie, that started Mickey's fame around the world.

Special Notes: This small pavilion is great for parents who want to do some shopping next door while their kids relax in the cinema.

All shopping areas will be covered later in this page

Adventureland

Swiss Family Treehouse

This huge tree was manufactured by Disney Imagineers. It features over 300,000 individual plastic leaves. The tree and the attraction were both based on the Classic Disney Film: Swiss Family Robinson.

As you walk up many flights of stairs to examine the tree, you will find different rooms, with all sorts of amentities such as beautiful furniture, and running water. A stream runs near the tree and thanks to a waterwheel in the stream, the tree automatically recieves water in each of the rooms. The gizmos are truly incredible. As you walk through this attraction you will find small notes to explain parts and rooms of the treehouse.

Special Notes: This attraction is all walking and it gets extremely high up. It might not be a good idea for anyone afraid of heights, or people unable to walk up to high elevations, to stay of this ride.

Jungle Cruise

Off to the side of Adventureland, in a secluded area surrounded by lush vegitation and blue waters you will find the Jungle Cruise. Even if it is raining be sure to go on this ride as the boats have canopy's - its not one to miss! After you get into the boat, you begin a journey through the rivers of the world, with a happy, skipper, driving your boat and cracking corny jokes all along the way.

First you enter the amazon, and a canopy of beautiful plants surrounds you. As you pass through each section, including a waterfall and ancient temple, all sorts of audio-animatronic animals greet you. Walt Disney wanted to be sure that every guest saw the same ride, and so they didn't put real animals into this attraction until almost 28 years later when Animal Kingdom opened. Nevertheless a very enjoyable ride, that shouldn't be missed.

Special Notes: The wait time on this ride is always changing; be sure to check the line times at the front of the park to plan accordingly. Also, this ride is very enjoyable during the bright of day, some of the ride's wonder deteriorates as the sun sets.

The Enchanted Tiki Room - Under New Managment

Come into this peaceful 9 minute show, to see some of the original audio-animatronics perform a number of cheerful songs.

These birds, flowers, and Tiki statues were the first of thier kind in the world. They have delighted guests for many years with thier somewhat corny comedy, and funny songs. Many new stars have joined the cast recently,(hence - "under new managment") and they make the attraction much more enjoyable, and updated from the pre-1971 version.

Special Notes: This show might be boring for older kids, but parents and small children will love it. Lucky for them, there are many shops nearby to keep teenagers busy.

Pirates of the Caribbean

At the back of Adventureland, you will find a dark and dreary bulding. As you walk into the entrance, a squalking bird will greet you with many different comments: "Ya come seeking treasure do ya, Awwwk! Salty old Pirates!" Once inside you will walk through a pirates dungeon and a very gloomy, old smelling, pirate fortress, as you get to the ride.

Once onto your boats, you enter a cave where you hear voices and echoes of the ghosts of pirates. Suddenly you come upon a dark beach filled with pirate bones and a ripped pirate flag. Almost unknowingly, you wisk down a large waterfall, for a very exhilerating, hardly gut-wrenching experience. Then you pass under a pirate sea battle as you watch the defenses of a coastal town crumble to the pirate's might.

The next scene, as if the entire mood of the ride changes from dark to happy features a bunch of pirates laughing and singing the highly recognizable song: "Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me!" as they destroy and loot a coastal town. The next several scenes show all manner of things from maiden auctions to a bunch of prisoners patiently begging a dog for the key to their cell.

Special Notes: While the begining of this ride is rather gloomy and almost scary, you might want to leave very young children off it. After the fisrt few minutes however, the ride gets very cheery and is not scary at all.

Frontierland

Frontier Shootin Arcade

This arcade allows guests to step up and take aim at a huge amount of targets with infared pistols. Whenever one of the reactive targets is hit, something happenes whether it be a barn door slamming, a whistle, a crashing glass noise, or a mine car going on the rampage, this small post is a great place to take a miday break from all the crowd of the park.

Special Notes: Careful! This attraction is very addictive. Also, to make use of the guns costs fifty cents for a certain number of shots, the price is not included in park admission.

Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Revue

Set in the style of an old western saloon, this attraction features a great variety of dancers, and singers and corny jokes at each of its 30 minute shows. Guests can pop in at any time during the day to enjoy a cold beverage while they watch the western cancan girls kick it up to a quick beat.

Special Notes: This attraction is based on the original Golden Horseshoe Revue which first premiered at Disneyland in 1955.

Country Bear Jamboree

Come join your favorite lovable bears for a concert unlike any other in the wilderness. All the country bears are ready to make music for you and all the other millions of guests they have cheered over the past 29 years. This attraction, unlike the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Revue, requires a wait to get in, but for the first time park go-er it is well worth the wait.

Special Notes: Be sure to check this out if you have small children, but for the more sophisticated adults and teens, this attraction might get a little boring.

Tom Sawyer Island

To get to this island in the center of the Rivers of America, guests must take small, wooden rafts. The island itself is actually seperated into two parts: each connceted with a barrel bridge. The island features all sorts of wooded scenery and even a Tom Sawyer themed restaurant: "Pollys."

On the island, guests can explore a number of different buildings. A mill, several caves complete with treasure, and steep climbing hills can all be found on the first island. But once across the bridge you enter Fort Langhorn, a frontier themed outpost complete with watch towers, and air rifles that make a gun shot noise when fired.

Special Notes: This attraction can only be accesed by the rafts that go to and from the island. When you get bored, you often have to wait a while to get back to the park, so be sure to leave a little bit ahead of schedule.

Splash Mountain

Join all the creatures from the 1946 movie: Song of the South, for a fun if somewhat misleading journey down a 50 foot drop. This attraction can be distinguished by the huge mountain and clinging vegetation outside of it. Though the wait is usually long, it is always worth it, new visitors, and veterans alike.

When you hop aboard your log boat, you begin to hear the forest animals singing a bright and cheery song. As you pass by all of the scenery including swaying riverboats, and some strange bear statues, you begin to hear the screams of the victims in front of you. Then you quickly dip down several drops that all lead up to the huge 5 story plunge...whooa!

Special Notes: This ride is a lot of fun, but for those who do not want to go on such an extreme journey, be careful about where you stand. There is a bridge directly in front of the spot where the log boats shoot down the huge drop, but with every boat's passing, the bridge gets soaked with water.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Disney Imagineers did a wonderful job on this attraction which is made to resemble a canyon in the Southwest. The huge mountain boasts multiple rock formations, tunnels, and a wonderfully detailed Western town. On this ride guests are greated by a high speed mine train that sends them zipping around the canyon range.

As guests enter the quening line, they will see some warning signs, due to the rides intensity. While these are true, Big Thunder Mountain is hardly a roller coaster and can be enjoyable by a much milder class of people as well as the ultimate thril seekers.

As your mine train starts going, you come across the gold rush town of Tumbleweed. Because of a recent flood, the locals are having one last party before they evacuate their town with all the gold they have already found, in search of a drier area. As you pass into tunnels and experience earthquakes, and sharp turns you will see remnants of their town's existance.

Special Notes: You must be 40 inches tall to go on this ride.

Liberty Square

The Liberty Tree

While this is not really an attraction it is still pretty amazing. The huge tree was found on Walt Disney World property and hauled to its present location. After a near death, it was repaired with cement and the help of many horticulturalists. There are 13 lanterns hanging from its brances that represent the 13 original states.

The Hall of Presidents

Set inside of a beautiful red brick building in a colonial style village, this attraction features both a movie, and some of the most incredible Audio-Anamatronic figures ever created by Walt Disney Imagineers.

One inside, guests are ushered into a beautiful theatre where they view a film that explains the importance of the Constitution throughout the many years of history. Then the curtain goes up and guests are suddenly greeted by every single president in US history. Several of the presidents have speaking parts and they all nod, fidget, and itch, with lifelike movements that will make you think they are actors. Truly an inspirational and patriotic show, this atraction is for everyone.

Special Notes: Did you know??? That when the Disney Company was trying to build Disney's America, they brought many historians to Walt Disney World, to show them how Disney could turn history into a theme park. This attraction was the single most impressive of all the ones in Disney World...and rightfully so!

Liberty Belle Riverboat

Climb aboard this actual working riverboat for a relaxing journey around the Rivers of America. Narrated by "Mark Twain" this boat ride takes guests through several areas of peaceful scenery from the wilderness...including an indian village, and some lifelike animals.

Special Notes: Be sure to notice the cabin in the wilderness that is on fire, but don't be alarmed... its all part of the show.

The Haunted Mansion

Get ready for one of the best rides in the Magic Kingdom! As you approach this old Victorian style masion, complete with a creepy black horse coach in the front, you notice the exqusite detail on the entire building. As you get into the line, you might see some of the funny inscriptions on the tombstones in the overgrown graveyard, and as you enter the mansion, all veterans to the park are a bit nervous about what awaits them inside.

Guests are all ushered into a strange looking room, and suddenly the door slams shut, and a voice booms over you. Telling you to notice that the room has no doors, and then creeping you out as the walls of the room begin to get taller, all newcomers to the ride are a bit frightened, while park veterans are laughing to themselves.

As soon as you are out of the small room, everyone realizes the joke: that, in fact, the ride is a slow moving trip through a bunch of funny and enjoyable scenes of ghosts having a party. You pass by scenes of ghosts dancing, singing, and scaring a local watchmen, with his shaking knees and terrified expression. At the end of the ride you hear the same voice as you heard in the small room telling you: "There are 999 ghosts in this house of haunts, but there's room for a thousand...will you be next?" Creepy but not, thats the haunted mansion!

Special Notes: Did you know that there has been enough dust used at thhe Haunted Masion since its opening in 1971 to cover the intire masion with dust?

Fantasyland

Cindrella Castle

The Flagship of both the Magic Kingdom and all of Walt Disney World, Cinderella Castle sybolizes all that Walt Disney hoped to acomplish, which meant delighting, and bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike. Built out of fiberglass and standing at 190 feet, this castle truly looms over the entire park. Inside the castle, which can be walked through to get from the center of the park to Fantasyland, there are a huge collection of murals depicting the entire Cindrella story with more than 500 colors of glass, and real silver and gold. Truly a dream icon for a park where wishes can come true!

Cinderella's Golden Carousel

This wonderful fantasy carousel is a must for all small children, the calliope music is just wonderful and the entire carousel's beauty will leave guests speechless. This carousel, which was found at Olympic Park, in Maplewood, New Jersey was completely restored by Disney Imagineers who replaced all of the horses with brighter and more durable fiberglass ones.

Special Notes: The line for this ride is always fairly long, and can get a little annoying in the bright, and hot, sun of Fantasyland, try to visit during a parade for a shorter wait.

Legend of the Lion King

This live show which features puppets of all the characters from The Lion King is narrated by Rafiki the blue butted baboon from the movie. It features some incredible special effects including rain, and even dust from the stampede scene in the animated movie. Guests feel the warm breezes of the desert plains, the cool showers of the tropical jungle, and they are surrounded in a fanciful world.

When guests get inside of the 500-seat theatre, they see a short piece of the Lion King movie, and then puppets of the characters come out and begin to tell the story. Each puppet is manned by several people, and every detail abou them, including how their mouths move is taken into account. Truly a magnificent show, this performance is a must see for parents and children alike.

Special Notes: The lines for this show can get quite annoying. Try to see the show in late afternoon, or during a parade.

Peter Pan's Flight

Come sail on your own magical, flying, pirate ship for a short and happy journey to neverland. Based on the disney movie Peter Pan, this attraction takes you from the Darling Nursery to sailing over the city of London, at night, where such landmarks as Big Ben, and London Bridge can be found, on your way to Peter Pan's island home - neverland. Once there, you discover Mermaids, and other mythical creatures, as well as a mean looking Captain Hook, who is trying to capture Peter.

Through a series of beautiful yet simple scenes, guests relive the experience of the movie, and children are delighted by the colors, and singing of the attraction.

Special Notes: The lines at this ride, as with all of Fantasyland, can be very long. Come during a parade or late in the day, for a shorted wait.

Its a small world

This ride, originally created by Disney Imagineers right alongside Walt Disney for the 1964-65 World's Fair. Labeled as the "Happiest Cruise to ever sail the world" this attraction, is a very simple yet very enjoyable ride for everyone.

The boat ride, sails through many different scenes of the world, where hundreds of small dolls dance and sing, all the while to the popular and catchy tune: "Its a small world after all...". Each scene is beautifully created and many simple effects such as fireworks, and swimming fish, make this ride abosolutely enchanting. The overall message of the ride is to embrace diversity, and to celebrate each others differences.

Special Notes: This ride is one of the few in Fantasyland with a short, fast moving line. Great for guests who want a simple, fun, ride, without a long wait.

Dumbo The Flying Elephant

This ride, which was inspired by the Disney Classic "Dumbo" seats guests inside plastic elephants. Once the ride begins guests have the option of moving up or down with the pull of a lever...a fun ride for children...and the line usually moves fast.

Mad Tea Party

Another carnival style ride, this covered attraction seats guests in brightly colored teacups. Once inside, the cups begin to spin and move all around the floor. This ride is a bit more intense than most of fantasyland's attractions, but still is rather tame...it also has the added advantage of being covered for rainy spells.

Snow White's Adventures

Another of the Magic Kingdom greats, this ride is classic Disney! This attraction takes guests through several scenes from Snow White - The First Disney Animated Feature...a ride for young and old alike.

The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh

The all new Winnie the Pooh ride is absolutely wonderful! The ride has much of the charm of the older Disney attractions, but with the precission and fluidity of brand new technologies. When guests are waiting in line they can see torn pages of larger than life Pooh storybooks gracing the walls and ceiling. Once on the ride, guests board honeypots which are their means of transportation. The ride goes through several scenes from various Winnie the Pooh books, and akin to the better technology, there are several special effects that make the ride great. Most notably, the part of the ride where tigger invites guests to "bounce" along with him, the honey pots actually begin to bounce...a great experince.

Special Notes: The Only Complaint about this ride: the terribly long waits...the standby line has an average waiting time of 90 mintues in the hot, bright, Fantasyland sun. The Fastpass for this ride, even though it shortens the wait, guests usually get times for the passes that are three hours later or more.

Mickey's Toontown Fair

The newest land at the Magic Kingdom, Mickey's Toontown Fair is aimed to please the park's youngest guests. It features many of the famous Disney Characters houses...below you will find breif descriptions of the opportunities found here.

Mickey's Country House

Mickey's big, bright, country house features several rooms and a lot to explore inside of them. The kitchen, a gameroom, and several other areas allow guests to see how Mickey lives. Then guests can go into the backyard and check out Pluto's doghouse, as well as Mickey's vegetable garden.

Special Notes: Mickey isn't usually at his house to great guests, to find him, just head down to the judge's tent at the fair.

Minnie's Country House

Minnie's house is full of surprises as well. Children are allowed to climb on the furniture for once, and can explore the rooms or Minnie's quaint house. There is a porch of to the side of the house with some "interesting" plants.

The Barnstormer

Situtated on Goofy's farm, this mini roller coaster takes guests on a tour of Goofy's entire property...which includes several sharp turns and near crashes into his barn. The farm itself is interesting to explore, and there is a small snack and souvenir shop at the exit.

Special Notes: The roller coaster, though situated at Goofy's barn, is fairly intense, parents should observe the ride before taking their small children on it.

Donald's Boat

Donald's boat seems to have leaks everywhere, and guests will almost definately get splashed while on it. It's very simple, and has little to do, but its a great spot to cool off from the hot sun.

Judge's Tent

This is the spot for Mickey! Guests can enter the tent and wait in a line while they watch a little movie about the Toontown Country Fair...once inside however, guests are given one on one time with the mouse himself.

Special Notes: The wait is usually fairly long for this attraction, so come prepared.

Tomorrowland

The Timekeeper

As guests enter Tomorrowland, and pass under the huge sign that marks the path to the future, they see this ride, a large gleaming, almost rocket-like building. Flashing lights and metal panels give a taste of the wonders to come inside.

Once past the quening area, guests are treated to an incredible Circle-Vision 360 movie. As the show goes, the Timekeeper has created the world's first time machine, and today his assistant, a flying robot called 9-Eye is going to travel through time and show you what various periods were like. Guests see famouse inventors and musicians in their early years, and get to see the sights and sounds in 360 degree panoramic views. As a finale, 9-Eye soars to the present and beyond, giving guests a glimpse of what the future has in store.

Alien Encounter

Alien Encounter hold's the record for the scariest Magic Kingdom ride to date. Outside, the ride is very futuristic, and looks like some kind of demonstation. Indeed, once guests are inside they find that they will soon be delighted with some interesting specimines from another planet.

Ones guests enter the main theatre, the excitement begins. As the show starts, restraints are lowered onto guest's shoulder. And soon, the teleportation tube in the center of the room begins to flicker, as something appears inside. Guests just begin to glimpse the horrible creature inside when all of a sudden, something goes wrong, there is a loud crash, screams, and special effects, and then the entire theater goes black.

Stuck tightely into their seats, guests are helpless to the special effects all around them that make them feel as if the alien is right by their side. Guests get the impression that the alien is breathing right down their necks...and the ride is neadless to say, very realistic.

Special Note: This ride is extremely intense and younger guests may not enjoy the noise and the dark. You must be at least 44 inches tall to go on this ride.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

Returning visitors to the Magic Kingdom might recognize this ride's location from some old favorites. Several other Disney Attractions: DreamFlight and 'If you had wings' used to reside in this attraction's spot. But now, Disney has created the first 'interactive' ride and it is definately a must see.

As you enter the ride, you will see painted scenes that seem to come straight out of the Toy Story movies, and as you walk onto the ride, a full size version of Buzz Lightyear greats guests, and explains the mission they are about to undertake.

Once on the slow moving, lime green vehicles, you will notice some unfamiliar aspects of Disney ride design - "fireable" laser guns, and a spin control lever. These allow guests to control their vehicles throughout the ride, and as they try to shoot at the 'Z' targets scattered throughout the ride you will feel like you're in some giant, real life, video game. A Must See!

Special Notes: This ride's lines are often agonizingly long, also the ride itself, although very entertaining, is short. Disney has again solved these problems by offering a FastPass for this ride. Be sure to use the FastPass service for this attraction if the wait is more that 20 minutes. Head over to the Tommorowland Transit Authority, which has no wait, ever, to pass some time before your ride time rolls around.

Tommorowland Transit Authority

This ride previously known as the WED-way people mover takes riders on a tour of Tommorowland. It's track slides you through a small bit of Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear's S.R.S. It is a nice way to relax after a busy day or as an afternoon break.

Carousel of Progress

This ride was also first made for the 64-65 World's Fair. It takes guests through a series of stages that show the same family growing up technologically from the early 1900's to the future. It was originally thought up by Walt Disney himself!

Space Mountain

The only real roller coaster in WDW at this point in time. Space Mountain is a huge, fast, zipping journey through the dark of space!

Tommorowland Speedway

The little cars that zip along this track let you pilot them, it is a fairly long track thought the ride is always over too quickly! It is often an insanely long wait however.
