Biographical Information

More Info (and more!)

Patricia Tarabini is a tennis player (we felt the need to state this, as it can be possible that, at this point, we have lost some of our readers) . That technical denomination means that she plays tennis. In the last years, only as a doubles player - normally with Conchita Martínez, but every once in a while she takes a rest plays with other partners, like Caroline Vis (!), Jana Novotna (!!), etc.

She has even played World Team Tennis (yeah, no idea how she made it to the team ), you can check the web site of the Team she played for here: Explorers - World Team Tennis.

An Outstanding Junior Career

Pato had an amazing career as a junior:

  • 1986 ITF Junior World Champion - Girls' singles: Patricia Tarabini (ARG).
  • 1985 ITF Junior World Champion - Girls' doubles: Mariana Pérez-Roldan (ARG) & Patricia Tarabini (ARG).

  • 1985 ITF Junior World Runner Up - Girls' singles: Patricia Tarabini (ARG).
  • 1984 ITF Junior (under 16) World Runner Up - Girls' singles: Patricia Tarabini (ARG).

Also, Patricia won a silver medal at the XII JUEGOS PANAMERICANOS that took place in MAR DEL PLATA in 1995 (when she was hardly a junior anymore! ) Pato has always been willing to represent her country both in the Olympic Games and in the Fed Cup.

Conchita and Patricia: Doubles Partners and Friends.

Most of what we have found has to do with her involvement with Conchita Martínez (as her coach from 1999 [after AO] till April 2001, and doubles partner since tennis was played with wooden racquets). It is obvious from what we have read that Conchita considers Pato a main part of her successful come back in 2000. From n.22 in the WTA rankings to n.3! Some of Conchita's interviews prove that fact:

"Right now I'm having fun playing and I'm feeling comfortable with my strokes. That's where Patricia has helped me a lot." Conchita Martinez

Interview 1 (extract from interwiew to Conchita Martínez - June 10, 2000)

Q:How long have you been coached by Patricia Tarabini? What kind of input did she have in the match against Arantxa? Can you elaborate on the psychological work you’ve done to get to the final here?

A:I think we work like a year-and-a-half or something like that. We started after Australia ’99, I think. She came as a friend because I stopped with my coach, I didn’t know who I was going to be coached by. She came as a friend. Then we talked, ‘Why don’t you coach me?’

You know, we still play doubles together. We have a lot of fun. Since I’ve been working, I decide to play tennis with a smile on my face, which was really hard the past years.

Interview 2 (extract from interview to Patricia Tarabini - from El País, June 10, 2000).

«Everyday, we go to train to the same court, seat on the same chair (errr... wait a second! both of them on the same chair?? ) and, at night, we try to go everyday to the same thai restaurant. It is part of our ritual and it gives luck to both of us to follow it», said Tarabini, who recognises that, to train Conchita she speaks frequently with Javier Duarte, trainer of Alex Corretja, with Eric Van Harpen, previous trainer of Conchita and with Emilio Sánchez Vicario (smart lady! we officially love his...errr... culo). «What I admire the most about her (Conchita) is her capability to face extreme situations...», said Tarabini, who has managed to build a team around Conchita that keeps her happy.

I guess you can really tell they admire and respect one another (Patricia and Conchita).
