"Old Hikers Never Die....They Just Trail Away"

If there's an overnight involved, we tend to use the term "backpacking". Hiking, on the other hand, is usually just one day. However, this can range from a short jaunt, possibly with children or a dog involved, to a much more demanding, boulder-strewn, cat claw-infested death march...or somewhere in between. It's a good idea to check with the coordinator first, to find out which it's to be.
On that note, if Mark tells you something will be an easy hike - he's lying. Easy for him is not easy for normal people.
