Sister
Berchmans,
the name sent terror to the hearts of many! She was not only our
principal, but also my math and english teacher (shiver) at one
point. I must share this however, that i have yet to meet anybody
who could teach better than she did! Seriously! Ever since she took
our classes, everyone scored over 80%. Pre sister Berchmans, everyone
scored under 60%..so u can imagine. She made us rewrite our essays
atleast 6 times, until they were perfect to the very last alphabet.
Also, i must add, she made sure noone ever said "pro-now-nce"
in our school "its "pronounce"(with a little irish touch).! If
she every finds her way to this website (and sees all these grammatical mistakes), ill probably flee to mars!!!You
Nincompoop!!! I can hear it even now in my head....
Lets not
forget those table manners and im very afraid to mention the word
serviette here because uptill today, i really dont know how to spell
it(1 had to check the dictionary). Lastly, the most important memory
is here: the blackboard head bashing!! i doubt anyone has graduated
from school without being blessed by having her head pounded by her at some point
or another( i swear, i was lucky enough to have missed it, but i
did live it vicariously at one point!).
Heres one
incident which has to be mentioned here at all costs:
Those lawrence college boys, as usual, would stick to our hockey
field grill like flies. Every, single day during games time, we
would have their audience. One day Sister Berchmans showed them
what an irish nun is all about. She had police men dress up as ordinary
men, who waited till the boys arrived. All i know is that one moment
they were talking to those boys, the next handcuffing them, To add
to their insult, they were made to walk through the school in that
state all the way through the hockey field till her office where
they were both slapped left and right by her and sent to jail. We
never saw lawrence college boys after that. she should run for Prime
Minister!
I have to
say though, i love sister berchmans and she remains my favourite.
All i
can say here is that our convent experience could not have been even
half as rewarding as it was had she not been our principal and teacher.
She is a woman who never compromises on quality, be it in education,
general standards for the school or anything else for that matter.
This quality alone, has gained her enough respect in my eyes. Her teaching skills are unmatched and i hope that one day my kids can be under her tutelage and gain all that we have gained from her.
CURRENTLY
AT KARACHI CONVENT.
