All About Sweets
- an interview
with the ever adorable and endlessly curious 'Sweets', the Shih Tzu - Poodle
cross dog!
. |
Hello
Sweets, thanks for speaking with us today, we know how busy you are, so,
let's get started! What is your date of birth?
. |
I
was born on Monday August 9th, 2004. My sun sign is a Leo!
. |
|
What breed
are you?
. |
Technically,
I am a Shih Tzu - Poodle cross, aka a Shih Poo! I enjoy being a Shih
Tzu - Poodle cross because I get the cuteness and spark of the Shih Tzu
and the intelligence and brightness of the Poodle. I believe (and
I may be biased here) that the Shih Tzu - Poodle cross is the most adorable
mixed breed dog ever!
. |
|
Are you a male or a female? | I am a neutered male.
. |
|
What kinds of special markings or colourings do you have? | I am mostly black with gray
legs and paws. I have a white beard and have a little white on my
chest. I also have gray on the underside of my tail. Aren't
I cute?
. |
|
How much do you weigh? | I only weigh 8 lbs.
. |
|
How tall are you? | I am only 8 inches tall
(at the withers). Kinda little don't you think?
. |
|
Where were you born? | I was born in Milford, Ontario
Canada (near Picton).
. |
|
Where do you live now? | Now I live in beautiful
Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
. |
|
What kind of personality do you have? | I am extremely sweet (hence
my name), very gentle, eager to please, I love attention, I am eager to
learn and am very loving. I am also a joy to be around, so they tell
me!.
. |
|
Who were your birth parents? | My mom was an apricot Poodle
and my dad was a black and white Shih Tzu. They both weighed less
than 8 lbs.
. |
|
Who is in your family now? | Mommy (Louise), Daddy (Mark),
older brother (Zeus, a White German Shepherd) and a nasty kitty cat brother
(Duster, whom mommy and daddy love dearly, I might add!).
. |
|
Do you have any nicknames or aliases? | Yes, I have many!
For instance; Funny Bum, Trucker, Lil' Big Man, Poo-Poo, Killer, Feisty
or Fiest, Puppy. Plus others like Oscar (the Grouch) because of how
wild my hair can get and Beau because mommy says I am handsome.
. |
|
What are your favourite toys? | My Kong filled with peanut
butter, sticks, my Nylabone and anything Zeus is playing with. I
also love anything with stuffing in it! I love any kind of teddy
bear. I immediately attack it and pull all the insides out then I
run around the house with the stuffing. This little trick drives
mommy and daddy nuts. Personally, I love the mess!
. |
|
Where is your favourite place to go for a walk? | Loyalist Park near our house
or the beach across the street. Anywhere outside really...I love
going outside as much as possible.
. |
|
Tell me some of your favourite foods. | I love peanut butter, any
type of meat, potatoes, bananas, carrots, pizza crust, popcorn and anything
else my mommy or daddy gives me. One thing I don't understand is
why they won't let me eat chocolate, it looks soooo good but I can never
have it. Trust me, I have tried but to no avail.
. |
|
Do you have any pet peeves? | I don't like strangers or
other dogs, I bark at them at first (then I tend to calm down when I think
I have shown them how tough I am). Not getting belly rubs and wearing
clothes. Baths, I hate baths! I don't like it when I don't
get whatever I want.
. |
|
What do you usually get in trouble for? | I pretty much get away with
everything. I'm so slick, all I have to do is look adorable and I
can do whatever I want!
. |
|
What are your talents and/or special skills? | Looking adorable and dropping
at mommy or daddy's feet and showing my belly to get a belly rub.
I can also sit, go down and I am learning roll-over. I also know
'off', for example, they put a treat down in front of me and say 'off'
and I don't take it until they say 'take it'. They are very proud
of me for this one. Aren't they silly?
. |
|
What is your most active time of day? | I am very hyper in the morning.
I like getting up about 6 am and I try to wake mommy and daddy up by licking
their faces off. I run and jump all over the bed and all over them.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I let them
sleep in, but not usually. As soon as the sun rises, I am up!
They give me breakfast and then I go back to sleep.

Please tell me about the day you arrived at your new home. | Mommy saw an ad in the local
newspaper for Shih Poo puppies at the end of September 2004. She
couldn't believe there was somebody in this area who was selling Shih Poos.
She had wanted one for a few months after falling in love with them after
seeing a few Shih Poos on the internet. The end of September was
bad timing to get me because they had just got Zeus in July. So,
a couple of months passed and mommy still really wanted a Shih-Poo and
she asked Mark to buy her one for Christmas, not expecting one at all because
there were none in our area that were available. On December 11th,
Mark asked Louise to go for a car ride to Picton to meet up with one of
his friends. She agreed to go. They got to Picton, no problem,
but then he said that they were actually going to Milford, which is only
a couple of kilometers outside of town. On the way, they got lost.
They ended up going down a road that seemed to go on for ever. After
some good directions, they got to the house where I was staying.
Mark went inside to get me. Meanwhile, Louise has no idea what is
going on. She sat patiently in the car waiting for Mark to come out.
When he did, he went to her side of the car and opened the door, opened
his jacket and I popped my little head out. She flipped out!
She flung her arms out to grab me and gently put me on her lap. We
spent precious time bonding on the way home. I even went on my first
ferry ride. It was so exciting. Mommy was so happy to see me.
I did miss my family after living with them for the first four months of
my life. What mommy didn't know, until later, was that I was one
of the puppies in the litter that was advertised in late September.
I hadn't found a home yet. I believe I was waiting for her because
I know she was waiting for me.
. |
|
When did you arrive at your new home? | I
arrived to my new home on Saturday December 11th, 2004. I was four
months and 2 days old at the time.
. |
|
How do you like your new home now? | Well,
I just absolutely love it. I get lots of treats and tonnes of love.
I have started getting along better with Duster (the cat) and sometimes
I even let him sniff me. It depends on how I feel at that particular
moment. Usually I am the one sniffing him, though.
. |
|
Thank you for speaking with us today. Any final words for your friends and fans? | Thanks for having me. I would like to thank all the Web people out there who have come to see me and have signed my guestbook. Thanks to everyone out there who sent in a picture, I love them all! Keep sending them in. | |
