His first wife was Alma Carroll and his second wife was Debra [-?-]. He was the father of five children. His oldest two children were from his first marriage and the youngest two children were from with his second marriage.[208]

255. Christine8 McGuinness (Eiver7, Annie6, Edward5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) She married Edward Kilcullen. Christine operated a bed and breakfast in Enniscrone, Ireland, in the 1980's. She and her husband operated Kilcullen's Sea Baths (hot sea water, seaweed and steam health baths) and tea rooms on route to the pier in Enniscrone in the 1990's. The business was run by Edward's father and grandfather.[210]

She taught in Woldingham Public School in Surrey, England. [Note: public schools in England would be classified as private schools in the United States][211] She speaks French, German and Swedish, and is the author of The Blue Guide to Sweden (published in February 1995 in the UK and US).
She married Patrick Mitchell Alderton. He went to sea at age 16. He is a qualified Extra Master. He received a Master of Philosophy degree in 1976. He has taught shipping technology and taught maritime economics at City of London Polytechnic. He is a premier authority on the subject of maritime economics. He is the author of `Sea Transport,' which was published in 1973. He is editor of `Reeds Almanac' a yearly guide for yachtsmen (world's best selling annual). He writes for many maritime journals. He was a professor of maritime economics at the World Maritime University, a United Nations foundation, in Malmö, Sweden for 6 years. He retired to England in December 1994.[212]
