Statue of Pentathlete
The Austria's Olympic stamp shown here is a fine example of the
typical Pentathlete of the classical period. This beautiful bronze statue was created
during 5th century B.C. (now in Helenenberg Museum). However, the
model for this stamp was taken from a copy of this statue which is now
in the Vienna Museum. The statue reveals the fine characteristics of
early Olympic Games. The beauty of this figure has not
yet been sentimentalized and its manliness is still vivid.
