Below are some images scanned from a test photo. The quality is not that great, but the purpose of this test was to see if there was a significant difference if an average user just resampled their digital image, or used the Genuine Fractals plugin to resize it. The photo was scanned at 100 ppi (dpi). It was then resized using bicubic interpolation in Photoshop, and also resized using highest quality non-lossy resizing in Genuine Fractals Print Pro. They were then printed together at best quality on glossy photo paper on an Epson Photo EX printer, and the resulting images were scanned to post on the web using high quality jpeg compression. These images are not particularly sharp, as they have been enlarged several times and scanned from prints at lower resolution for testing purposes. The purpose was not to produce the best image, but to compare the two methods of resizing for printing. For that reason, no additional sharpening or enhancement was used. The 2x and 3x resizing of these images are what might be needed to print an 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 inch photo from a 1 or 2 megapixel digital camera image, at a good printer resolution of 200 to 240 ppi. |
